The Fine Print

The Issue: Lack of Affordable Housing in the City of Molalla

In Molalla, 10.5% of residents live below the poverty line, according to the US Census Bureau. The Beteran family could not afford to purchase a home in the city and was not able to access a conventional home loan. High rent costs were making it difficult for Luciano and Juana Beteran to afford even their current living situation, which does not comfortably accommodate their three girls. The family has partnered with North Willamette Valley Habitat for Humanity to begin construction on a Habitat home.

The Campaign: Installing Cabinets at a New Habitat House

If this Grassroots campaign raises $500, then North Willamette Valley Habitat for Humanity can install bathroom cabinets in a house being constructed for the Beteran family in Molalla. Although volunteers help with much of the construction process, NWV Habitat must hire professionals to build and design the cabinets. Each additional $10 raised will go toward funding the installation of kitchen cabinets, which will cost about $1,500. Donations beyond $2,000 will be used to install cabinets in another Habitat house.

North Willamette Valley Habitat for Humanity

North Willamette Valley Habitat for Humanity is one of 33 Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Oregon, and it constructs decent, affordable homes for selected families in need. NWV Habitat builds homes through help from private donations and volunteer labor. The partner families who move into Habitat homes contribute 500 hours of volunteer labor, known as sweat equity, and make modest monthly mortgage payments with zero interest. In the last 25 years, NWV Habitat has constructed 37 homes for local families.
