Estimates put the number of Indianapolis residents experiencing homelessness at more than 1,500. Each day, Horizon House opens its doors to these individuals, providing them with basic-needs services encompassing nutrition and hygiene, as well as professional services, including job training and case management, administered with hospitality and respect.
Among the comprehensive array of basic services at Horizon House, the day shelter provides access to on-site showers and laundry facilities so that visitors—located through street-outreach programs and partnerships with area homeless shelters—can maintain their personal hygiene. In 2010, Horizon House supported homeless neighbors with 7,300 showers and more than 6,200 loads of laundry. With additional aid, the organization can continue to supply these vital, dignity-enhancing services to area men and women experiencing homelessness.
