The Fine Print

In light of the difficult economic climate, schools across the country are eliminating their arts programs, despite a long-term decrease in art-related competency among students in the United States. Orlando Repertory Theatre (The REP) bolsters students' exposure to theater, literature, and arts education with experiential opportunities where they can witness live-action adventures and see their favorite characters come to life on stage.

Through its No Empty Bus program, The REP enlivens schoolchildren from underserved or Title I schools in Central Florida with the drama of the theater by providing free or discounted tickets to their professional productions along with full or partial fuel and bus subsidies. Students can watch the actors bring stories to life on stage and discuss what they saw with the cast after the shows, allowing them to interact with the arts on a level not always possible in school. Access to theater arts can help students develop reading and language-arts skills, foster meaningful connections with professional adults, and learn basic social and theater etiquette skills. The REP also provides teachers with resource guides to further engage their students with classroom activities that match Next Generation National Standards for Theater Education and Florida Sunshine State Standards.

Join G-Team and donate $9 to help inspire and educate children with the theater arts. If G-Team members raise $270, then Orlando Repertory Theatre can fund a theater trip for an underserved classroom of 30 elementary-school students. Each additional $9 raised will fund a theater trip for another student.

Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100 percent off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.

The Groupon Guide to: Passing Notes

Seventh graders have long practiced the art of passing notes in class in order to avoid the strain of talking to their hormonally imbalanced peers and teachers. Here's everything you'll need to know to pass a note in class without getting caught:

Use Secrecy: Secrecy is doing something without loudly talking about it—a difficult task for humans. Avoid telling anyone about the note by loudly discussing your recent dermatology appointment instead.

Fold the Note: An unfolded note will be easily spotted by the rest of the class and any parent guest speakers talking about what it's like to work indoors.

Signal to the Recipient: Making a loud "pssst!" noise gets the attention of your intended recipient. This is because roughly translated, "pssst!" means "Good morning, Derek who sits behind me! No, not you, Derek, the other Derek! I'm passing this note to the Derek who sits behind me, so turn around other Derek, I have nothing for you!"

Pass Under Your Desk: Most students tack their band-aids underneath their desks. If you are passing the note under a desk, the recipient might touch a band-aid and contract germs that cause the common flu or laziness. Be careful.

Which Derek is the best Derek to pass a note to?
