Founded by physicians researching the health-care needs of a population of Muslim women, Mariam Clinic has expanded its mission to providing comprehensive, culturally sensitive health-care services to those who are uninsured or facing poverty across all faiths and backgrounds. The clinic's volunteer staff represents multiple religious and ethnic backgrounds, with many speaking multiple languages. Mariam Clinic medical volunteers also focus on preventive care by assisting clients in making healthy lifestyle changes.

Though Mariam Clinic offers free appointments and care to its patients, many of them require more expensive diagnostic laboratory tests such as lipid panels, prostate-cancer screenings, and routine bloodwork to furnish experts with full pictures of their health. Though the clinic can provide discounts on some laboratory tests to those in need, many clients are unable to afford even discounted laboratory tests.
