Harley's Old Thyme Cafe
When Harley hitched a ride up to Alaska on an impulse back in 1978, he brought a little piece of his native Southern Oklahoma with him. That piece was the cuisine.
Harley had been working in restaurants ever since he was a kid—he even owned his own when he was just 23. Before moving to Alaska, he traveled the South, picking up recipes and cooking techniques along the way. After moving to Alaska and marrying in the early '80s, he and his wife, Margaret, opened Harley's Old Thyme Cafe. Together, along with their daughter, the two serve up southern-influenced classics during lunch and dinner, including as chicken-fried steak and brisket slow cooked in a secret sauce.
