$60 for an Introduction to Digital Photography Class ($125 Value)

Photography classes take place at the Hotel Mount Pearl. Veteran photographer Jim Hart starts the sessions with five hours of classroom instruction, covering fundamental camera functions, depth of field, exposure, aperture control, metering, shutter speed, and composition before leading students outside for a one-hour practice session. Upcoming classes are held on Saturday, January 19, and Saturday, February 9, at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Hartcraft NL

After wrapping up a successful career in sales management, Jim Hart, a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography, has gained a successful photography career selling prints throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Not content with only producing his own work, Jim launched a photography-workshop series through his business, Hartcraft NL. In two courses geared for beginner and intermediate shutterbugs, Jim shares his knowledge on camera function—such as ISO, shutter speed, and his thoughts on aesthetic sensibility and how to pose a fidgety pineapple—fostering the development of a new generation of photographers. Through Hartcraft, Jim also creates gallery-wrapped canvases of local landscapes and does custom printing and matting of his own photographs for customers to take home.
