Nightmare: New York
A lot of what goes on inside Nightmare: New York is worthy of a Broadway stage. That is, if producers were willing to trade standing ovations for screams of terror. The horrific attraction has been going strong for more than a decade, and it brings together the talents of professional haunted house designers and theatrical stage directors. Along with talented actors, they craft a brand of terror worthy of dozens of favorable press mentions, including the honor of being called the city's "Scariest Haunted House" by the New York Post. Each year, Nightmare's team brings different goosebump-worthy subjects to life, like the world's most infamous serial killers or urban legends like super rats, sewer alligators, or a truly bottomless cup of coffee.
It would be an understatement to call these trips into the macabre immersive. For about 25 minutes, groups of 6–10 walk through enclosed spaces amid fog, then twist down darkened hallways where strobe lights, loud noises, and terror wait everywhere. Because of the high level of scares, Nightmare: New York doesn't recommend its experience for children, though visitors 10–16 can come with a parent or guardian.
well done like an old spook show. The ending (no spoilers) blew my mind off!Eli B., Yelp, 12/9/11
