Self-Help (Until May 11)
A rollicking, old-fashioned farce, Norm Foster's Self-Help aims at funny bones with its biting satire and rapid-fire gags. The show follows couple Hal and Cindy Savage, whose marriage has been floundering since they transformed from failed actors to successful, but unscrupulous, self-help gurus. When Hal catches Cindy as she’s about to knock boots with the gardener, the unsuspecting horticulturist has a fatal heart attack, and the dysfunctional couple must band together to fend off a detective's probing questions and a journalist’s attempts to dig up dirt. The quick-moving play has won praise from such outlets as the Hamilton Spectator, which called it "one of the funniest comedies the prolific Canadian playwright has written."
Who Maid Who? (May 17–July 7)
The schedule’s farcical theme continues with Who Maid Who? Showing up at his cabin for a relaxing weekend with his would-be mistress, Joe finds his home increasingly overrun, first by his wife, who is dressed in a flirtatious French maid outfit to “keep him company.” Before long, Joe's parents and his best friend Chris, among others, show up at his door and become entangled in his increasingly elaborate deceptions. Riddled with misunderstandings and rampant door slamming, the show made its world premiere in 2010 and caught the eye of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, which raved that it provokes a plenitude of "grins, giggles, and guffaws."
