For Souhaer Zarik, belly-dancing is a means of expression. A story begins the moment she takes the stage and strikes her initial pose, and every belly movement that follows has meaning. Ms. Zarik doesn't think she's an artistic anomaly, though—she believes everyone can learn how to express themselves through dance. In fact, she's even designed a structured curriculum to take students from complete beginner to belly-dancing star. The introductory class starts with fundamental postures and body movements. From here, Ms. Zarik' takes fledgling dancers through four additional class levels until they ultimately arrive at the advanced class. It's here that students design their own choreography and develop a stage presence that is uniquely their own.
While enchanting to watch, belly-dancing also has health benefits. With this in mind, Hip Kik schedules a Belly Fit class that incorporates dance moves into an intense workout for the legs, stomach, and rear ends.
