$175 for a Two-Day Film-School Crash Course with Film Instructor Dov Simens on February 16–17 ($395 Value)

During the two-day crash course, students learn every step of the filmmaking process, beginning with idea generation and writing a screenplay, and continuing with direction, budgeting, and scheduling. For the second day, Simens discusses strategies for marketing, distribution, and financing.

2-Day Film School

For more than 20 years, Dov Simens has been taking the film world by storm. He has lectured on the campuses of esteemed institutions such as UCLA, USC, and NYU, working with students including Quentin Tarantino, Guy Ritchie, Will Smith, and Queen Latifah in the process. To share his success with others, he's condensed his decades of knowledge into a range of Hollywood-centric courses, including his signature Two-Day Film School and One-Day Film School. The classes cover the essentials of the biz, including topics such as screenwriting, budgeting, financing, raising money, producing, and how to make your film whether your budget is $5,000 or $10 million. He also offers postproduction education in areas such as navigating festivals, marketing, and distribution.

The Groupon Guide to: Spicing Up a Monologue

Monologues are the most boring part of plays since they only involve a single performer and that single performer is never an adorable baby actor. To make these seemingly unending passages more interesting, follow these helpful tips:

  • Do something interesting with your voice. You could give your character an accent or, if you can't do a convincing accent, just yell the entire time.

  • Cut out all the unnecessary words, such as articles and any full sentences that don't foreshadow how the main character is a group of children hiding inside a man's suit.

  • Wear a funky hat or rad loafers. That'll give the audience something to look at!

  • Perform it with multiple people and tell the director you're going to start calling it a fun-o-logue.

  • Start at the end of the monologue and work backward. Then when you finish, tell the audience that they just got Pranked'd™. (If you're interested in buying the rights to use the name Pranked'd™, probably for a hilarious hidden-camera goof show, please contact Groupon for more information.)

Why is there so much yelling in plays? Find out in today's Groupon Guide.
