General admission grants access to the Houston Margarita Festival on Saturday, October 26, from noon to 10 p.m., at Discovery Green. Samples of the fest’s namesake drink are not included with this Groupon, but are available in 17 different flavors, with tasters for $2 each, full-size margaritas for $6, and premium margaritas for $8. Guests can also pair their sips with Mexican food or barbecue from vendor booths. The festival is cash only; ATMs will be available at the gate. A dozen bands play throughout the day, including the New Orleans–inspired Texas Brass Band, salsa specialists Salmerum, and the Mambo Jazz Kings. The 2013 festival is larger than previous years and features an expanded space, additional drink-ticket booths, and a VIP section with extra food booths and handmade margarita stations.
Houston Margarita Festival
Houston Margarita Festival’s organizers throw a party based on a combination almost as classic as tequila, salt, and citrus: drinks, music, and sunshine. In the crisp fall air, guests sample a variety of traditional and flavored margaritas, from samples to full-size premium drinks using top-shelf liquors. The fest also hosts salsa and limbo competitions with cash prizes and trophies for the winners. Although the winner of the limbo competition is determined by the deepest back bend, the organizers use an Apollo-style judging system for the salsa event, with the winners chosen by the loudest cheer from the crowd or the brightest spotlight from the sun.

“Bring a chair. Bring cash. They have more than just drinks and food. Make it a late evening date unless you like the sun you are downtown and could walk around after the fest. Really long lines, tight space. Dress comfortable. ”
