Newton discovered that bodies in motion tend to stay in motion until acted upon by a choreographer, scathing critic, or falling grand piano. Choose from the following dates:

Hubbard Street Dance, one of the country's preeminent contemporary dance companies, cultivates innovation by staging diverse dance techniques and forms. This year's Fall and Winter Series are set to awe eyeballs and gratify gray matter with choreography by dance masters from around the globe. The autumnal show has a world-premiere performance choreographed by Los Angeles–born Victor Quijada (who earned the nickname "Rubberband" because of his childhood break-dancing dexterity) in addition to Arcangelo, a mind-bendingly mysterious work by Nacho Duato, a Spaniard who served as artistic director of the National Spanish Dance Company. Winter Series goers will witness a performance of the emotional Petite Mort by Jirí Kylián, a Czech choreographer, and Alejandro Cerrudo, Hubbard Street Dance's resident choreographer, will also reveal his latest leaping, twisting, and twirling work. Your premier-level seat, on the main floor or balcony, gets you close enough to the action to guess about the dancers' right or left handedness.

Performances take place at Harris Theater for Music and Dance at Millennium Park. Tickets are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Seats are assigned based on when Groupons are purchased, so to be seated next to your spouse or landlord, you must purchase multiple Groupons in the same transaction.

Tickets are available for pick up one hour before your purchased performance. Present your Groupon for performance tickets at the designated Groupon ticket pick-up table near the box office at Harris Theater.

Reviews

The New York Times, the Washington Post, and the San Francisco Chronicle have all featured Hubbard Street Dance. Ten Yelpers give it a five star average:

  • It's not often audiences leave a modern dance performance feeling thoroughly entertained. Confused or deeply moved, yes, but not like the previous two hours were a rip-roaring good time. Hubbard Street Dance Chicago delivered just such a crowd-pleasing evening... – Rebecca J. Ritzel, Washington Post
  • The Hubbard Street Dance Company is one of the success stories of dance today. – Jennifer Dunning, New York Times

The Groupon Guide to the "Quiet Period"

The "Quiet Period" is the time right before a company "goes public," during which it is legally prohibited from saying anything to the press that may make the company look "good," "successful," or "not currently on fire." During this sensitive time, it is the duty of the press to force the adolescent company through a series of brutal hazing rituals, designed to desensitize it to public criticism. This tough love helps the naively optimistic company to thicken its skin, atrophy its soul, and finally grow up into a real corporation. Here are some traditional hazing rituals you can use to torture companies in a quiet period:

  • Wait until the company is sleeping to smear scream-activated bees on its face. Lesson Learned: Don't believe your company's own "buzz."
  • Photoshop the company's logo to appear to be shaking hands with James Buchanan, America's worst president. Lesson Learned: Everything you see or read about a company is true, if it's on a computer.
  • Use the company's cell phone to text a vote for the new M&M's color to be a sickly ashen gray. Lesson Learned: Customers aren't capable of making their own decisions.
  • Kick sand in the company's face. Lesson Learned: If the company survives, it's time to move on to sand's close relative, powdered glass.
  • Write disparaging articles about the company. Lesson Learned: That's what they get for trying to be a company.

How can you be sure a company is not currently on fire?
