Welcome to HUNTINGTON MEMBERSHIP!

Dianne S.

Hi, So if I purchase this membership, it covers both my husband and myself PLUS our three kids, all for $60 entrance to the gardens and museum for a full year?

David E.

Yes, This Sustaining Membership covers Two adults (both you and your husband) and all of your kids under age 18 for One year, allowing you access to all gardens and galleries for $60 through this Groupon deal only.

Gina D.

Dianne- yes, that appears to be the case. Membership includes: Unlimited admission for up to two adults per household and your children and grandchildren younger than 18.

Dianne S.

This is so nice. I loved the Huntington Library when I was a kid. I can’t wait to bring my kids there.

Michael G.

one the best deals I have seen.

so let’s say I purchase this deal and purchase my membership 8/9/10 then my membership is valid until 8/9/11? Is this correct?

David E.

Fantastic! Can’t wait to see you there! We even have a Children’s Garden with many cool hands on water features, magnetic sand, and much more! Including a Botanical Conservatory that has a whole wing that is interactive, for the kids and kids at heart!

David E.

Hello Mary, If you purchase this deal on 8-9-2010, we will actually take you to the end of that month the next year, so your Membership will expire 8-31-2011.

Dianne S.

That sounds so fun! When does this deal end so I can fill out the membership stuff and take the kids? Will it be available this coming Monday for us to go?

David E.

Hello Dianne S.

This deal will end at 11:59pm this Sunday, and you will have up to Nov 9, 2010 to bring your coupon in to the Huntington for redemption.

Dianne S.

Great, so I an fill it out Monday morning and drive up there Monday, right? My kids are going to flip when I show them where I’m taking them Monday!! Thanks so much for answering all of my questions, David.

David E.

Yes! just purchase the Groupon by midnight on Sunday, print your Coupon or bring your iphone/Android phone and come on down to The Huntington, our Membership staff will be happy to help you at our entry pavilion, they will be easy to find. Can’t wait for you all to enjoy this awesome place!

Jacqui B.

Let me know if I got this correct. If I purchase 1 membership for $60, is good for the whole family? My husband won’t need to buy his own?

Jacqui B.

I got it.

David E.

Hello Jacqui B.

You are Correct! This Membership will cover the whole family! Both you and your husband receive a Membership card in your names and all your kids under 18 enter free with you for one year, isn’t that awesome?! One of the few deals that might seem to good to be true! But it is true! No need for your husband to buy one separately. Can’t wait to see you all there!

l a.

I love the Huntington. We used to go all the time when my son was a child. It was one of the first places he went to with friends when we returned from Thailand last year. I LOVE the new Chinese Garden and I rave about the Children’s garden. Went recently to a member’s night with music, the place was packed with people. Wonderful evening.

Claudia L.

Nice work David E.! This is a great deal…definitely worth purchasing. I’ll be gifting it for a birthday.

Lisa M.

Could I use this deal as a starting point for a Contributor or Premier Level membership (e.g. purchase this and pay an extra $80 for the Contributor level)?

the Huntington is amazing!!! my fav is the Japanese Garden… i could just sit there for hours… my daughter loves the bamboo forest… an oasis amoungst the hustle & bustle of the city…

i am a current member, can i use this toward renewal?

Emmet O.

I would like to take different friends with me to the Huntington at different times (one at a time). Would I be able to bring a guest with me like that (like my LACMA membership)?

Terence T.

2 questions:

1. We currently have a membership, which expires in April 2011. The description says we can use this to extend our existing membership one year. As we are already members, do we need to be there in person to add the year? Or can we fax/email to add the year?

2. When we pay for membership directly we can deduct it as a charitable contribution. Will buying the Groupon still count as a $60 charitable contribution?

I’m thinking about buying this for my mom and her fiancee. Is “fiancee” included in the family membership? He has a different address then my mother does, but they currently live together.

Nancy H.

I think the daily schedule listed in this offer is inaccurate. Isn’t the Huntington CLOSED on Tuesdays?
Other features, in addition to the world-class collections of art and sculpture, are the Conservatory of Botanical Science with its hands-on experiences in basic botany and the many lovely exhibitions of the arts in the Boone Gallery.

David…I just signed up. This is my first time using Groupon. It says must activate by expiration date Nov 9th, 2010. How do you do that? and when is the actual year end if i signed up today? is it August 6, 2011? Looking forward to being a part of the Huntington. I live nearby it and wanted to do this for a while then saw this deal this morning.
Please let me know the answer to my questions.
Thank you in advance…
Louis Lemoine

David, I’m a single in one household, can I do a membership with my sister (2 kids, 3 & 5 yrs old) in a separate household? I’m asking because of the 2 adult in a household criteria.

Bari D.

Thanks so much for answering questions on the discussion board, David. Enjoy the offer everyone!!!

Bari
Groupon Staff

Hi David,

Does this mean I can take my groupon to Huntington Gardens let’s say on November 1, 2010, does that mean my membership is valid for one year until November 30, 2011?

Thanks!

Hi David, I am in a single household as well. Would children’s names have to be listed as I would like to take my Godchildren at different times, I have a few. Also, being single, may I take a friend when i go without being named ahead of time? Thanks

laura A.

David, I wanted to say THANK YOU! Me and some friends have been wanting to join but the 120. price was a bit steep in the economy. I was so happy to see this fantastic price! I love the Huntington! Laura

Vanessa L.

Like Terence T. above, I am currently a member of the Huntington through next spring 2011. Would I be able to use this deal to extend my membership from that date on? (Instead of the Nov 09 Groupon expiration date.)

David E.

Good Morning All!
Now that I got this pesky sleep out of the way, let’s answer some questions!

Lisa M.
Yes, you can! Purchase this Groupon and once you bring your coupon in to The Huntington, we can present you with some upgrade options at a discount.

Leila
It is AMAZING! I agree with you, I think the Japanese Garden is my favorite too, although it is in close competition with the Jungle Garden for me, love getting lost in its hugeness!
Since you are a current Member, you can use this toward your renewal.

Emmet O.
Yes you can take different friends! The Sustaining Membership is good for two adults always; you will receive one card with your name and are able to bring a different guest every time.

Terrence T.
You can use this to renew your Membership for one year we will add a year after your current expiration date. You will need to physically bring your voucher in to renew by November 9th, 2010.
You are correct, purchasing Membership directly through us can be deducted as a charitable contribution, unfortunately in this case, since you are purchasing it through a third party (Groupon) It will not count as a charitable contribution.

Wan J.
Of course fiancé is welcome to be on the Membership, it will not be a problem.

Nancy H.
Yes, the Huntington is closed on Tuesdays. We are open M, W, TH, F, SAT and SUN, 10:30am-4:30pm.
I will review the daily schedule, Thank you!

Louis L.
Simply come in to The Huntington with your coupon voucher by November 9th, 2010 and our Membership staff will help you. If you sign up today August 6th, 2010 we will actually take your expiration date to the end of the month next year, making your expiration date August 31, 2011!

D.T.
Memberships are designed to service one household. Give us a call and we can talk it over with you if you wish.

Marina L.
You are correct!

Didi
No, children do not have to be named. They will simply come in with you, when you do. Membership is good for two adults, so you are more than welcome to bring a different friend with you every time!

Laura A.
You are welcome! I’m so very pleased we are able to do this offer for many people, you and your friends will surely have a wonderful time here, and I still can’t believe I get to work here! See you soon Laura!

David E.

Vanessa L.

You can use this to renew your Membership for one year. We will add a year after your current expiration date. Bring in the coupon before November 9th, 2010 to simply redeem it. Your Membership will expire Spring of 2012.

milli g.

David, you are the best representative that I have ever seen for any of these groupons. Thank you!!!

I have been going to the huntington since I was a child but stopped since it was too expensive. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to go again!

Cindy F.

HI David
Is 11/9/10 the latest I can activate the membership?

Carla d.

Hi David – How do we activate membership?

Hi David,
I just bought one and this is a great offer! My husband and I went to the Huntington Library last year and did not even get to finish touring the whole place since it is HUGE! I can’t wait to go back there again and visit the beautiful gardens. Oh and the Tea Room too!
If we sign up tomorrow can we use it on the same day?
Thanks!

Desiree P.

$60 is worth it even if it was for one day. You can clean out your mind and soak in all the beauty…..many times. Thank you Huntington for the lovely offer.

Keri J.

David E.
Just to clarify- you can take different friends (one at a time) as the Sustaining Membership is good for two adults always; you will receive one card with your name and are able to bring a different guest every time. But Memberships are to service one household so if a guest has kids that would not work since they would not be under the household requirement.

David E.

Milli g

Thank you so much! I’m very pleased we are able to do this offer through Groupon! Welcome back!

Cindy F.
and
Carla D.

11/9/2010 is the last day you can redeem/ Activate your Membership giving that Membership an expiration date of 11/30/2011.

Activating the Membership
Simply print the coupon after purchase and bring it in, that is it!
We will have you fill out some of your information, Name, address, phone and issue you Temporary Membership cards. Permanent cards will be sent to you, via Mail within 2 weeks.

Louis L.

david…thanks for the reply. this is awesome. i did sign up this morning already and i have my printed groupon to bring in with me.
can’t wait. thank you for making this exquisite offer. have a great day.

David E.

Emily L.

It is quite HUGE isn’t it? You definitely need more than a day to see the whole place, I’m so glad to have you and your Husband back. The Tea Room is quite special, we also now have a Chinese Tea room in the Chinese garden, no reservations required there. If you sign up tomorrow, you can redeem the coupon that same day. We will see you soon!

Desiree P.
You are too kind! I certainly think so too! You are welcome, we will see you soon!

Keri J.
You are correct, that is exactly how the Membership works, the guests children will have to pay the $6 to enter, under 5 are free, with this Membership only your children are covered under age 18.

Shana W.

What is it about Nov. 9 2010 expiration date. That is not the date of expiration for the membership is it? I assume annual membembership expiration date would be a year from the purchase date. Did I get this right?

Jonathan B.

Wow, I picked this deal up when it tipped a few hours ago…and it’s already close to 1,000! I guess this goes to show that this is one of the best Groupons that have come out for our area.

My wife has been raving about this place since we first moved to the area…and I was just thinking of taking a day off so that we could go with our son. Looking forward to finally seeing it with my own eyes…and I guess to seeing all of you at the Member Summer Evenings ;p

Also, I want to reiterate, but David E….you’re the man for helping to put all this together, as well as for all the diligent replies. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a moderator be this attentive…

David E.

Shana W.
You are correct! If you purchase today and redeem it at The Huntington today, your Membership will expire 8-31-2011. NOV. 9th 2010 is simply the last day you can redeem this voucher here at The Huntington, if you wait to redeem it on Nov. 9th 2010, your Membership will expire 11-30-2011.

Tara C.

I agree with many that this is the best groupon deal I’ve seen. It’s $20 a person to get into the Huntington on weekends. I LOVE it there and have always wanted a membership – but at $120 I couldn’t justify it with my budget. Now I can go and bring a friend whenever I feel like heading out. This is great!

David E.

Jonathan B.
The response is quite amazing isn’t it?! It almost made me spill my coffee out at Starbucks this morning. We are very thrilled to have been able to offer this through Groupon. Thank you for becoming Members this morning, you will surely be amazed by what your eyes see! A true gem in the San Gabriel Valley. Thank you for your kind words, I will hopefully see you and the family at our next Members’ Summer Evening, August 15th!

dawn g.

I was so excited when I saw this amazing offer this morning! This IS one of THE best Groupon offers! I love the Huntington and now I love it even MORE. Thanks!! :)

Martha B.

I have a membership at a higher level. Does this offer then give me a $60 discount when I extend the membership at that higher level?

Thisbe

Dianne S.

Wow over 1,000 already. I am so excited about taking my six, seven, and eight year old boys here on Monday. I loved this place when I was a kid. It’s so amazing to have a place like this to experience with children. Best Groupon ever. I’m going to ask how much to extend to a two year membership when I go Monday. Would be nice if it was another $60 to add another year.

alison f.

so… are we allowed in at 8:30 or 10:30 with this membership? thank you!

Thank you for the quick response David! We hope to see you Saturday to thank you personally. Just the same, Huntington Library is sure lucky to have you working for them!

Have a wonderful weekend to you and to all my new co-members!

Jonathan B.

8 minutes to reply…I think Emily and I owe you a coffee at the cafe to thank you personally.

Also, thanks to this thread, I just realized that this membership entitles us to bring another adult when the other member can’t go (we don’t have to use the complimentary guest pass?). Dang…I hope Dianne’s right and we can extend this for another year…

Cynthia V.

Great deal David! Thanks.

matthew s.

Dear David:

First, Yes, Thank You for being so Responsive, and Thanks, too, to The Huntington for making this offer.

On our First Date guess where I took my wife-of-14 years ? Where else ?

But when I BEG for us to return (STILL haven’t seen the NEW Chinese Garden, it was still under construction the last several visits we made) the COST has been prohibitive for my wife.

My efforts at ‘winning’ the “Free Ticket” lottery has been fruitless…

At $120 I have never been able to convince my wife that it was ‘worth it’…

Keep in mind, MY first visit some 50 years ago was, of course, FREE, as were subsequent YEARS of visits. I watched as a “Donation” went from Suggested-to-Requested, then Required. And alll the permutations since in pricing.

Never been able to get RESERVATIONS at the (now ‘Old’) Tearoom, due to Timing Requirements, GLAD to hear none requirede at the “New” one…

HERE IS MY QUESTION:

My 30 year old Step Daughter who is visiting/currently living with us but a Foreign National - what would be the most cost effective way of having all 3 of us visit together ?

I know how ONCE any ‘foreign visitor’ (let alone a US visitor from out-of-state) got PREFERENTIAL ENTRY TREATMENT - but I believe that is all ‘in the past’ now ?

Am I correct in imagining that maybe buying a “Senior” one day entry (for me or my wife) for ‘the 3rd party’ would be cheapest ?

By-the-way we sometimes have foreign visitors that we have and would love to take to the Huntington, so if you COULD clarify what the Current Policies Are in regards to out-of-state and especially Foreign Visitors, I would truly appreciate that…

Or, should I try to connect with you personally ?

Regardless,

Thanks Again,

I HAVE BEEN TRYING to bring my stepdaughter to the Huntington for MONTHS now !

Matt

David E.

Dawn g.
I was excited too! I’m so happy we are able to do this with Groupon, I’m so glad to have you back!

Martha B.
If you purchase this Groupon offer we will have upgrade options/continue your level of membership at a discounted rate.

Dianne S.
We would be most happy to discuss a 2-year Membership with you when you redeem your voucher. You boys will have a blast!

Alison F.
This Membership allows you entry at 10:30am, although if you wish to come in earlier (8am), we will have an upgrade Membership option when you redeem your Membership voucher.

Emily L.
Thank you Emily you are too kind! Welcome to Huntington Membership, we hope to create some special memories for you!

Jonathan B.
You are too kind as well! Can’t wait to see you all here! And you are right, you don’t have to use your guest pass when the other member you sign up with is not present.

Cynthia V.
You are welcome! And Welcome to Huntington Membership! so glad to have you.

matthew s.

PS. actually, last time I tried valiantly to ‘talk her into it’ the Annual Membership was ‘only’ $100 as I recall…

Jingjing Y.

Hi, I know that the deal ends on Sunday. Can I purchase it today and use it this Sunday on August 8 before the deal ends because it is my daughter’s birthday.

I am sooo happy!!!! This is wonderful! Now I can come more often than just seeing the wisteria in the spring! Whahoo!

David E.

Matthew s.
Wow! Matthew you certainly have seen The Huntington through years of change!

Let me post our daily ticket admission rate to help you make your decision.

Admission on weekdays
$15 adults
$12 seniors (65+)
$10 students (Middle school, HS require no I.D. College students do (foreign students included))
$6 youth (ages 5-11) free for children under 5.

Admission on weekends
$20 adults
$15 seniors (65+)
$10 students (Middle school, HS require no I.D. College students do.)
$6 youth (ages 5-11) free for children under 5.

With that being stated, this offer does include a onetime use guest pass for a third adult, which can be used the day you redeem your Membership, so all 3 of you would be able to enter that day. Anytime after that, your guests would have to pay the admission fee or if the other Member on your Membership does not come with you when you visit, you are welcome to bring another person in their place. I hope this information has helped you to decide, if not feel free to contact us and we can further discuss. In regards to out-of-state and especially Foreign Visitors, these same rules apply. Thanks Matt!

Amber G.

Hi David, I purchased a Groupon for my family, and I would like to purchase one of these memberships as a gift Groupon for my parents who live out-of-state. They visit me a few times each year, and we love going to the Huntington. Will I be able to take the gift Groupon voucher to the Huntington myself and redeem it in my mom’s name? She will not be present. Please advise. Thanks!

David E.

Thank you for all the wonderful feedback and questions!
We certainly are getting quite the response! Unfortunately our Phone line for messages is now full, so if you would like to comment here, rest assure your questions will be answered!

Thank you everyone!

Ryan Y.

Shoot! I just got a year membership last weekend. Oh well, I bought this anyways to renew for another year! Woo-hoo! Thanks, David and whoever gave the go-ahead for this deal at the Huntington.

David E.

Mathew s.
Yes, you recall correctly! back in September of 2008 the Membership rate went from $100 to $120.

Jingjing Y.
YES! You can! and Happy Birthday to your daughter! What a wonderful way to celebrate!

Carol
There is so much in bloom year-round! You will love it! Visit www.Huntington.org and check out our What’s in Bloom section.

Donna S.

Hi David, thank you for being so good-natured about all of our questions. Here’s mine: my current Sustaining Membership is valid until 12/31/2011. Can I use this Groupon offer to extend the membership until 12/31/2012? (Ignore my e-mail sent directly to you if you answer here.) Thanks!

David E.

Amber G.
Yes, you certainly can bring the voucher with you and not have them present, just have their names, address and phone number information to get them started. She will not have to be present. What an awesome daughter you are!

Ryan N.
Thank you!! rest assure your contribution will help this wonderful institution continue on for years to come, and thanks again for renewing with this offer! You’ll be amazed at what we have in store for our next line up of Membership events!

David E.

Donna S.
You are correct Miss Donna, we will add a year of Membership after your current expiration date, we don’t want you to lose any time on your Membership. Just make sure to turn in your Voucher Coupon before by November 9th, 2010.

donna K.

Is the guest pass something you can give away to someone or must the member be present with them?

Thank you, David!!

Melissa K.

I am a Supporting member (expires in April). How much above this price would it be to keep my current level of membership? Do you pay the difference between Supporting and Sustaining. Sorry, trying to figure out if this is worth it, or if I should just renew later on. Thanks!

David E.

Donna K.
Yes, the guest pass you can give away as a gift, the Member does not have to be present for it to be used.

Melissa K.
Once you buy this groupon you will be able to upgrade onsite for $180, total purchase price including Groupon would be $240 in your case.

Marisa H.

Hi David E:
I just purchased this deal and plan to come in to activate next week.
My husband just called me and he also purchased this deal.
Can I activate mine first next week so it will expire with 08/31/2011 date? Then my husband can come in November to activate so our family membership expires 11/30/2012?
Sorry if this has been posted already.
Marisa

Lynn D.

How much is the parking charge these days? Thank you.

Piksupunk P.

I’m interested in going to the Members’ Summer Evening, August 15th. Can I redeem this groupon at the event 5PM or do I have to show up earlier during regular hours to redeem it? Also, can I bring 3 guests to the event? What is the maximum number of guest you can bring?

Piksupunk P.

Lynn D. It says parking is free on their website.
http://www.huntington.org/huntingtonlibrary_02.aspx?id=600

enedina a.

I bought my membership today and I understand that I can’t use it until tomorrow; however, my membership confirmation states the purchase date as 8/7/10 and my expiration date as 11/9/10, i thought my purchase covered a year. Am I missing something

David E.

Marisa H.
That sounds good to me! Just don’t lose that voucher! Welcome to Huntington Membership!

Lynn D.
You will be thrilled to know, PARKING IS FREE!

David E.

Piksupunk P
That sounds like a great plan to me! You certainly can redeem the voucher at 5pm for our Members’ Summer Evening. You can use your guest pass for one guest for the event, or pay $5 for each guest, there is no limit on how many guests you can bring.

Lynn D.
Correct, Parking is FREE!

Dean
The Sustaining Membership is good for two adults and all of their children and grandchildren under the age of 18. If you would like to give this as a gift to your Mom, she would be able to bring one adult guest and her children/grandchildren under 18. If it is purchased for yourself and your brother, you both would be the two adults allowed in, mom would have to come in with a guest pass (one is included with this Membership) or pay admission or if your brother decides to stay home, you can bring Mom in his place.

enedina a
You have nothing to worry about Enedina, lets both take a big breath. Should you wish to redeem your voucher today you can, we will accept it. November 9th is simply the date you must bring your voucher in by. Let’s say you wait to come to the Huntington until, November 9th, then your Membership will run from Nov.9th 2010 to Nov. 30th, 2011. We always take you to the end of the Month no matter what date in the month you sign up.

donna K.

enedina, you bought this groupon on 8/7/2010 (because you can’t use it until then). You must activate the coupon by 11/9/10 or it expires.
And your membership will be good for an entire year from the date you activate.

My membership expires January 2011. If I buy it now, will it last till Jan 2012?

David E.

Thanks Donna K!

Deborah S.

AMAZING deal, and super helpful representative to answer questions.

My goddaughter always begs me to take her, and we go a couple times a year. With this we’ll definitely be back more often. Maybe I’ll go this weekend! :)

David E.

Aria

You are correct!

My husband and I have been members of the Huntington for many years. We are sustaining members, can we use this groupon for extend our membership?

I purchased two, one as a gift and I to extend our membership. I hope we can do that.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Patty

David E.

Deborah S.
It is quite the deal! Isn’t it? Thank you for your kind words, you’ll be glad to know all of us here at The Huntington are this helpful! Your goddaughter has great taste! This weekend should have some beautiful weather conditions.

David E.

Patty T.
That is wonderful! You can certainly use this Groupon to extend your Membership and gift it to someone else, just follow the easy groupon instructions, you will be given two Voucher coupons after the transaction is done.

You know, I realized, we are contributing members…can we still extend?

David E.

Patty

Once you purchase the groupon, come to The Huntington and we will present you with the option to keep your current Contibutor Membership level for an additional $60.

Okay… thanks for your help!

Kathy B.

Hey David!

I just grabbed this mighty fine deal. My husband is excited about this as he’s from Australia and longs for civilized outdoor/nature time. When we come in on our first visit will he be given a membership card as well? He might want to pop over on his own here and there.

Thanks!

Michella H.

Hi- I have a few questions- I’m buying this as a gift to someone- I’m going to come in and redeem it. Will there be some presentable way to give this to someone like in a box or special envelope that says The Huntington on it or is it more just the temporary card given in a non-presentable way? If so- will there be some option to make the gift look nice like the other gifts I have given from The Huntington? Thanks!!!!

Keri J.

Hi David,
If I were to purchase this deal for my boyfriend he would be able to take me under the membership (not as a guest); but then say his sister is visiting and I am not able to go, can she attend under his membership and not as a guest as well?

David E.

Kathy B.
You both will receive a Membership car, and that way he can pop over anytime. Let him know we have an Australian garden too! Would be interesting to see what he thinks about it!

Michella H.
There will be a presentable way for you to give this Membership as a gift. The cost is and additional $5 for it to be boxed with a nice ribbon.

David E.

Keri J.
You are correct! Although I’m not sure what you mean by Not as a guest? When your boyfriend signs up he will have a card issued to his name and will be able to bring someone different in every time. If he places you on the Membership as the second cardholder, if you stay home and not attend with him, he can bring a guest in your place. Membership is always good for two adults.

Keri J.

Thank you David, that is was what I thought the deal was. My question has been answered.

Emily J.

Hi David,

I wanted to purchase this groupon for a friend who is married. She has no kids, but she does have 2 nieces that she would love to take here. Would she be able to bring her husband and nieces? Thanks!

David E.

Martha B.
Martha to expand more on your question, when you bring your voucher in for redemption we will have the Upgrade/Continuing your current level options for you.
An additional
$60 for Contributor
$120 for Affiliate
$180 for Supporting

Emily J.
Memberships are good for their children under 18 only, but please give me a call and I will be happy to further discuss with you. 626-405-2124

J. A.

What a great deal! I’m at the Huntington all the time! Thank you!

Casey

Hey David,

My understanding is that with this membership I can get 2 cards, one with my name, and one with another adult in my household. If the secondary cardholder goes solo can that person bring a guest in my place? Or must the primary cardholder be present to bring a second adult that is not part of the main membership?

matthew s.

in reply, David wrote, in part:

“Wow! Matthew you certainly have seen The Huntington through years of change!”

Yes !

Before the ‘old’ tearoom and the Scott were even considered …

Seeing Pinkie and Blue Boy become ‘hidden’ from view and re-located, too… the ‘new’ entrance et al.

I STILL miss the old parking ‘situation’ which I feel was better by far than what we have today… but maybe my memory is biased ?

The ‘biggie’ was when the Meditation area of the Japanese Garden first opened…

Years of change, years of grandeur.

Often I have thought to try being a Docent - maybe now, as I retire ?

Thanks Again,

David

PS. those ‘extra concerns’ that USED to be shown to ‘out-of-state’ and Foreign Visitors mainly were to either allow them in free (still) or ‘without passes’ on the ‘free days’ or… the ‘thinking’ apparently was it wasn’t appropriate to place too many pre-restrictions’ upon non-locals.

Not ‘asking for favors’ - but because it HAS happened where suddenly we found ourselves WANTING to take an unexpected ‘drop-in’ visitor to the Huntington and unable to because of restrictions that are relatively ‘new’ to me… I just wanted to clarify whether or not any such considerations still were being made.

If the secondary cardholder goes solo they can bring someone in your place, and vice versa.

Casey

Amazing! This deal is rocking my world. Thanks so much!

fern j.

I see that this is OK for renewals. If my membership expires December 31, 2010, will this really extend it until December 31, 2011? Our membership was a gift and we have used it so much.

Brian W.

Wow David you are the best! Great support on the discussion and great deal in general! I’m excited to come activate it and talk about extending my membership.

I know I can ask when I activate but can you let us know how the upgrades would work?

Monique L.

I purchased for myself. Can I purchase as a gift for someone else?

donna K.

Yes, Monique, just look for the give as a gift button. I did this too.

donna K.

(poor David) Brian, if you look back one page, you will see the cost of upgrading to the levels.

I am thinking that since that payment is direct to the Huntington, that upgrade portion might be tax-deductible?

David E.

fern j.
If your Membership expires December 31, 2010 with this Groupon offer your Membership will expire December 31, 2011, just turn in your voucher by November 9th, 2010.

Hi David,

I apologize if some of my questions have been asked already. I want to be 100% clear on them before I decide to purchase.

1) I see that my membership would include two adults. I am single. Would the other adult have to be someone in the same household (i.e. have the same physical address) or am I free to bring any one (different physical address)? Can it be a different person each time or does the second person have to be named when I sign up for membership?

2) Are there any restrictions to this membership pass? Specifically, can it be used on weekends? Is it good for any and all hours that the Gardens are open?

3) I see that the membership includes entrance to special exhibits and festivals. Does this apply to ALL special exhibits and events? For example, I have heard that a Chamber orchestra plays there in the summer. Would membership include free admission to events such as these? Or would I still have to pay the price of those tickets?

4) Can you stack the deal? In other words, let’s say I buy a first year for $60. Can I get that $60 rate extended if I bought a second year right now?

5) Gift for friend. Is that refundable if it turns out that friend already has a membership?

I think that’s it.

Let me know asap and apologies again if some of these questions have been covered. I just want to make 100% sure before I buy.

Thanks a lot!

Kelly C.

Thank you David! This is a great offer and I’m letting all my friends know. =)

Linda .

One more question. I see in the discussion that you said that if my secondary cardholder goes and I can’t go they can pick someone else to go with. Is this only in the case that I name my second cardholder? If I don’t name my second cardholder, would they be able to go and still bring anyone else along? In other words, if I gave my card to a secondary cardholder, would they be able to use it and bring anyone they wanted? Thanks.

Vicky C.

I bought a groupon this morning and I just found out my friend bought one for me as a gift now. Can I use both groupon for two years membership?

Brian W.

Thanks David. Will you offer the same rate for extended year membership? (2 years and such) just as others asked or do we have to buy another groupon for that?

David E.

Yennie
Please see my responses.

1) I see that my membership would include two adults. I am single. Would the other adult have to be someone in the same household (i.e. have the same physical address) or am I free to bring any one (different physical address)? Can it be a different person each time or does the second person have to be named when I sign up for membership?

1)The other adult would have to be in the same household, same physical address. If you choose not to have a second cardholder, you can simply bring a different guest with you every time. If you choose to name a second cardholder and they do not come with you, you can bring any person in their place, with your card.

2) Are there any restrictions to this membership pass? Specifically, can it be used on weekends? Is it good for any and all hours that the Gardens are open?

2) There are No restrictions, you are able to come in on normal operation hours. Used any day, except Tuesdays when we are closed.

3) I see that the membership includes entrance to special exhibits and festivals. Does this apply to ALL special exhibits and events? For example, I have heard that a Chamber orchestra plays there in the summer. Would membership include free admission to events such as these? Or would I still have to pay the price of those tickets?

3)We have many various events and programs here at The Huntington, you will be invited to our Membership events only, and all of our other Huntington events are either public/free or can be attended by paying fees for tickets. For example the Chamber Orchestra you are referring to is the Southwest Chamber Music program, they rent out space to play here on our grounds and sell tickets on their own, which you can purchase, should you want to attend.

4) Can you stack the deal? In other words, let’s say I buy a first year for $60. Can I get that $60 rate extended if I bought a second year right now?

4)No, we cannot stack the deal. We can not duplicate the offer that Groupon is offering.

5) Gift for friend. Is that refundable if it turns out that friend already has a membership?

5) All refunds are handled through Groupon, you would have to contact them to find out, I’m sure we would be able to re-gift to someone else, should the original intended party have a Membership.

6)One more question. I see in the discussion that you said that if my secondary cardholder goes and I can’t go they can pick someone else to go with. Is this only in the case that I name my second cardholder?
Yes, they can pick someone else to go with. When you don’t name a second cardholder you are allowed a guest always.

If I don’t name my second cardholder, would they be able to go and still bring anyone else along?

If there is no second cardholder, no one else but you can use this Membership.

In other words, if I gave my card to a secondary cardholder, would they be able to use it and bring anyone they wanted? Thanks.

If you name a second cardholder, they would be able to use their card and bring someone, if you don’t come.

Linda .

Okay, about the second cardholder thing. So if I name a second cardholder and he can’t go, I can still bring any guest (including one with a different street address) correct? And if I name a second cardholder and he can go but I can’t, he can use the card and take any guest (including one with a different street address) correct? So it is to my advantage to name a second cardholder?

Thanks a lot!

Yes, the Membership from your friend can be applied to yours for another year of Membership.

Brian W.
No we will not offer the same rate for an extended membership, You can be gifted another membership for an extended membership.

Lucia F.
My parents are members of the Huntington. At the moment, my fiance and I are living with my parents until we are able to buy a house (we’re looking and are hoping to buy by the end of the year). I noticed that memberships are for one household. How would this work for us? Could I get a membership for my fiance and myself even though we share an address with a current member? Eventually, we would be changing the address once we move into our own home. Thank you!
Stacye L.

Hi. I brought my groupon at 1am in the morning and made a mistake buying two. How do I cancel the secon one? Thank you in advance.

David E.

Lucia F.
Not a problem Lucia, you can sign up even if you share an address with another Member.

Stacye L.
Contact Groupon and they will be happy to help with you mistake. Groupon will be the one to handle any returns.

This isn’t really a question for David.

But I hope to get some help.

I am automatically signed in through Facebook, but when I fill out the payment form, I am told that I need to log in.

Or I’m told that I already have an account.

I tried to log out, but I’m always auto-logged in through FB.

Can someone help? I really don’t want to miss this deal.

Thanks =)

David E.

Stephanie
Log out of everthing (facebook and Groupon) and just log in through groupon. Ignore anything Facebook, see if that helps.

Sally K.

David- No questions just a compliment on the the fine job that you are doing representing the Huntington!

Been to the Library many many times and after watching Groupon deals for a few weeks, this was the one that made me join.

Many thanks!

David E.

Thank you, you are too kind! I’m so glad you joined! Can’t wait to see you soon!

Hi David. It says it is a one year membership, but then says it expires Nov. 9, 2010. Does the deal expire by then or the membership?

Molly .

Good Morning Everyone! My name is Molly, and I’m the Membership Assistant for The Huntington and will be happy to answer your questions for the next two days from 9 am-5 pm. I will also be responding to e-mails and answering phone calls, so here we go!

Doris V.: I’m not sure what happened with your transaction/confirmation but I would contact GroupOn to check on it. They are handling all transactions for this amazing deal.

Sandra B.: The actual GroupOn voucher expires on 11/9/2010, which means you need to bring that in to validate your membership before then. Your membership will start once you bring the voucher in and will be valid for an entire year.

Piksupunk P.

Sandra B. David explained this. He said you must redeem the groupon voucher at Huntington by Nov 9. From the date of redemption you have a full 1 year membership. So if you redeem it Nov 9, 2010, your membership expires Nov 9, 2011.

jacqueline d.

Killing Coyotes with Wire Neck Snares? I was so excited to buy a membership until I read about this. How horrible that you fired someone who was simply trying to relieve the suffering of an animal. Please tell me you’ve ended this cruel program: http://www.humanesociety.org/news/press_releases/2009/01/national_coalition_calls_for_end_to_coyote_snaring_program_012709.html

Johnny

This deal is not san fernando valley to far from here

Molly .

Just to claify, all memberships are valid for a year from when you redeem your GroupOn voucher (prior to 11/9/2010). Also, all membership expiration dates are taken to the end of the month. For example, if you redeem your GroupOn voucher on 10/5/2010, your membership will be valid until 10/31/2011.

Molly .

Jacqueline: I have been a volunteer and employee here for over a year and have never heard of any animal being hurt or an employee being fired for such an act as mentioned in this article. I’m unsure where they got their information. We at The Huntington take preserving our literature, manuscripts, plants, and animals very seriously, and I assure you this is not a practice we follow.

Carla d.

My compliments to the Huntington for a brilliant move to bump up memberships. Almost 3000 memberships in one weekend! That’s an incredible number! And this deal gives people like me (ie on a budget) a chance to enjoy the Huntington on a regular basis, so thanks for the opportunity.

Molly .

Carla: We are all very excited about this offer as well and are even more excited that new members will be able to enjoy our library, art collections, and gardens! Thank you for your comment!

Raymond S.

How much willl I be charged to buy this deal?
Raymond Garcia
Glendale Ca

Molly .

Raymond: You will be charged $60.

Raymond S.

Hi Molly:
Thanks for the quick response… so there is no service fee to me by Groupon, just the $60.00 for the annual subscription. Correct?
Thanks again
Raymond

Molly .

Raymond: There will not be a service fee. You will only be charged $60.

This is an amazing groupon.com deal! Thanks Hungtinton Library for offering this!

Molly .

Michelle: Thank you for your comment! We are glad that everyone is as excited about this offer as we are.

Arlyn L.

Thank you David and Molly for answering all of our questions. Of course, I have another. Can we redeem our Groupon Voucher any day that the Huntington is open or does it have to be during office hours? Just wondering if redeeming the voucher will require special handling.

The reason this is a great deal is because the “Free First Thursday” promotion that the Library has run for years is now booked up for months in advance.. now with this membership I can go on a Monday or Wednesday and actually enjoy the beauty of this place without the Disneyland crowds (though with over 3000 new members and their adult and child guests in tow, it may be Disneyland every day)!!

Molly .

Arlyn: You are free to redeem your GroupOn voucher any day we are open. You will find Membership Representatives at the Membership Desk in the Entrance Pavilion who will be able to assist you at any time. We are currently on our Summer Hours, which is 10:30 am-4:30 pm, so feel free to visit and redeem anytime during those hours! Also, we are aware that 11/9/2010 falls on a Tuesday (which is when we are normally closed), so our office will be open to redeem the voucher on that Tuesday as well (8:30 am-5 pm).

Molly .

Tim: Thank you for pointing out another wonderful perk of becoming a member!

Linda .

please help, i want to buy
i go to the buy page but the lock on the right bottom side of my computer has a red exclamation point on it, which means the site is not secure and anyone on-line can see my data
how can i fix this. i want to buy but cannot if the website is not secure

please let me know ASAP cuz i want to buy

thanks,
yennie

Linda .

i understand that this may be a technical glitch with the site, but could you please let me know asap so i can buy before deadline tomorrow? this would affect everyone, not just me b/c most people wouldn’t feel secure buying if the website is insecure.

THANKS!

Molly .

Yennie: Please do not worry. The website is secure, and your information will not be shared with or viewed by any outside party. When you click into buying the membership, the website address should read “https” with the ‘s’ indicating that it is a secure site.

Hello David E.

I purchased this deal and went to the Huntington today (loved it).

I have a question about bringing guests. In a few responses, you mentioned that you can bring any adult with you (one at a time) and that person would be free.

However, when my husband and I signed up today, we were told that we were the only ones that could get in free with the membership – that, aside from the one free guest pass, our guests would always have to pay. I realize this would be the case if both my husband and I go. But, we were told that if only one of us goes, we cannot bring a guest for free.

Also, with the kids, we were told that they do have to be named on the application to get in free. Otherwise, we would have to pay separately for them.

It seems like there is inconsistency between what you are saying here and what I was told today.

Any help that you can provide me to clarify would be great.

Thanks! Today was my first time at the Huntington and my husband and I barely scratched the surface. We will definitely be taking advantage of this membership by returning multiple times. What a great deal!

I’d like to say thank you to The Huntington & Groupon for coming together for this deal. Like many who have taken advantage of it, I have long wanted a membership but couldn’t afford one, so I’m thrilled. The Library staff are going above & beyond in processing the memberships. I had a glitch in my order & needed help this morning. The woman I spoke with was cheerful, patient and kind, and I was reassured all was as it should be. Thank you!

Linda .

Could you please clarify the important question asked by a previous poster copied below? It will affect me so I want to make sure of the response. Thanks!

“I have a question about bringing guests. In a few responses, you mentioned that you can bring any adult with you (one at a time) and that person would be free.

When both you and your husband go to the Huntington, you are the only two allowed free entry (Membership allows two adults in and your kinds under 18). If your husband decides to stay home (or vice versa) then you can bring one adult in his place (still following the two adults only rule, per day) In regards to your kids, in order for them to get in free, one of the Members would have to be present (you or your husband) you can not send the kids with your card and have them come in. Kids are not named on the Membership. The only way you could designate your child on the Membership is by placing one of them instead of your husband, but they must be 18 years old. I hope this helped clarify any questions you had; it seems there could have been a breakdown in communication from either party. Please make sure you are speaking with a Visitor Services and Membership Representative regarding anything with Membership, we do have many volunteers and security personnel that may not necessarily know all the details of our Membership program. I’m so glad you enjoyed your time today! You had some amazing weather that I’m sure made the day an absolute pleasure. I hope we will see you guys soon!

Vicki

I’m thrilled we could provide this awesome deal to you!

Hi!
Yesterday, I took advantage of this groupon. I waited for the email confirmation, but it never arrived. Is there any other way I can confirm that I got in on this so I can continue to process my membership?
Thanks!

David E.
Heidi

I don’t think you actually receive an email confirmation. Log back in to groupon.com go to My Stuff and select My Groupons, this Membership should be listed there if the purchase went through, you can then click on it and print your voucher. Enjoy!

David E.

Sarah o.

We can not use this same offer for another year of Membership, you would have to pay an additional $120 when you redeem your coupon. If someone gifts you this groupon, you could then use both, and extend the membership another year.

David E.

Sarah o.

Yes, we would allow that. With this Groupon deal we allow you to purchase only one for yourself but as many as you would like as gifts. If a friend who bought one for herself, then receives a gift from you, we would then extend her Membership for another year.

Melissa D.

Thanks, David E.

I did speak to someone from the membership table, but I may have misunderstood (or miscommunicated what I was asking).

I appreciate your fast reply and all of your help.

Thanks again!

Megan B.

I currently live in Chicago, but am moving back to CA in late November (after the 9th). Is there a way to activate the membership without physically going to the Huntington (even possibly having a friend bring in our groupon)? We would love to take advantage of this if it is possible.

Linda .

Seriously, David, you rock!!! Thank you for answering all of my questions. I really really appreciate it.

I am looking forward to going to the gardens. It sounds like a tranquil oasis now with all the stress of daily life.

Take care and thanks again!

Melissa D.

yennie ~

I went for the first time yesterday and the gardens were AMAZING. My husband and I were there from 11am to closing (4:30) and we didn’t even see all of the gardens. Not to mentions that we didn’t even step foot in the library or any of the galleries.

This one year membership deal is such a great deal!

MD

Molly .

Megandy M: Please give me a call today at (626) 405-2124. If I do not pick up, leave a message (indicating who you are so I know it’s you!), and I will definitely call you back before I leave today so we can figure this out.

Molly .

M D: We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your visit, and we look forward to your future visits!

Suzanne V.

I would love to sit in the gardens and read, is there seating? Can I bring a blanket and read in a shady area?

Molly .

Suzanne: Great question! There are plenty of benches located throughout the facility that you are more than welcome to relax on. Also, you can bring a blanket and sit somewhere on the grass, if you choose. We see Members all the time bring in a book, sit somewhere, and spend the afternoon reading/relaxing. The only thing we do not allow on the grounds is picnics. Thanks for your question!

Yesenia C.

I went yesterday with my 2 girls (4 & 7 years old) and my husband. We loved it, the gardens are amazing. It was our first time visiting and we can not wait to go back, thank you groupon.

CATHERINE C.

During my college years, I used to go here a lot to study. This was a peaceful place to read and look over notes. Now with the help of this groupon, I can come on a regular basis again. Thank you Huntington and Groupon!

Erika E.

We went today and were sooooo happy! Thanks for this great deal. I hadn’t been since my son was born and he absolutely loved the children’s garden. I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was, and perfect for him as a toddler. Thanks for making this affordable for our family!

David E.

THANK YOU EVERYONE! for making this such an AMAZING Success! We can’t wait for you all to activate and begin your Membership! Remember if you have any further questions please call 626-405-2124 or email us at membership@huntington.org, From all of us at The Huntington, THANK YOU, and Welcome to Membership!

Justin H.

David E., please tell me that Groupon has offered you a job with them. No offense to any Groupon reps, you do a great job, but David E. you have been outstanding when it comes to the customer service here on this board. I have never seen responses so quick, detailed, and informative. Your responses I’m sure have helped drive up the purchasing number, I hope your boss has taken note. The Huntington is lucky to have you.

Linda .

+1

David, you are awesome! Hope your boss takes note! :)

Vanessa L.

Molly was helpful too!

David E.

You guys are the best! Too gracious! Molly our assistant was indeed extremely helpful as well! Believe me the entire Huntington took notice! It was truly awesome! I hope to see you all August 15th for Members Summer Evening, I’ll be wearing my badge, come say hi!

Thank you for the shout out, Vanessa! :) I was glad to help!

I am so bummed I missed this as we want a membership for our family as we love visiting the gardens but couldn’t fit it into our budget. I had misread it thinking I had three months to purchase it, not activate it. Grrrr. Guess that is what I get for missing the fine print.

Lydia

Stacy, don’t feel bad…I also thought that I had 3 months to purchase. Can’t believe I missed this one!

Aaron, wow! Thank you so much for the link. I was able to get the deal and now I know about Lifesta. Thank you!
