Jamaicans have given the world a bounty of brilliant gifts, such as the world's fastest runners, the world's mellowest music, and the world's only full-length bobsled documentary worth watching. Experience Jamaica's most delicious cultural contribution with today's Groupon: for $20, you get $40 worth of authentic Jamaican cuisine and tropical drinks at Ja' Grill Restaurant & Lounge in Lincoln Park.

An escape from Chicago's blustery winter wrath, Ja' Grill pays homage to Jamaican cuisine with a menu of highly authentic edibles. The restaurant’s chef was raised in Jamaica, a fact that becomes evident after delving into any of the numerous flavor combinations concocted from fresh ingredients. Entertain your taste buds with signature dishes such as jerk chicken ($12–$14), spicy curry with goat meat ($16), red snapper (market price), fried plantains ($4), and coco bread ($3). Ja' rum punch provides a potent partner for the pabulum, bringing three rums and natural fruit juices together for a mixological mouth meeting ($10). Pulsating beats of Caribbean rhythms will nourish your ears as you enjoy a worry-free meal in paradise. Before or after a meal, retreat to the lounge, where DJs regularly spin reggae dub and a medley of other laid-back musical styles, making it easy to unveil the brand-new moves that only your mirror and Bill Clinton action figure have seen.

Reviews

Five Citysearchers give Ja’ Grill Restaurant & Lounge an average of 4.5 stars, more than 100 Yelpers give it an average of four stars, and Metromixers give it an overall average of 4.5 stars:

  • It was really good. I had an entree of jerk chicken and pork. The jerk sauce was spicy and tangy, and the meat was incredibly tender. Every entree order comes with rice and beans, plantains, a cabbage and carrot mixture, and some sort of Jamaican bread. – Ben E., Yelp
  • The Jerk Chicken was served with a hot and mild sauce on the side. By itself it was fantastic however the HOT sauce was a huge hit at the table. The chicken was cooked to perfection and NOT overdone. It reminded us of the street vendors in Negril serving the chicken out of old trash barrels made into grills! Lastly the Red Snapper was just like Jamaica!!! – ckitout, Metromix

Ja' Grill Restaurant & Lounge

Executive chef Herbert "Errol" Gallimore, who hails from Ocho Rios, Jamaica, draws upon a lifetime of gustatory experience to fill Ja' Grill Restaurant & Lounge with impeccably crafted Jamaican dishes and rum cocktails. Inside the dining room, servers sling spicy jerk chicken, curry goat, and escoveitch, a.k.a. red snapper. Downstairs in the lounge, bartenders blend fresh fruit juices and rum together for Ja' Grill's own signature Ja’ rum punch, which cools off tongues marinating in the spices of a savory oxtail stew.
