It says that you cannot use this groupon towards contacts. I was wondering if the eye exam could still include a contact prescription so that contacts can be purchased separately?

can this be used with eye insurance as well?

carolyn b.

What is the average price someone would pay for a complete pair of glass if they have an extremely low rx but have astigmatism? I am trying to find out how much more out of pocket expense I will incur or if the $200 groupon will cover an average exam, normal lenses (no tinting or extras), and frames.

If you can not answer the above question, then tell me what the price range is for your men’s lenses.

carolyn b.

Also just to clairfy, there will be a $200 deduction from the cost of the glasses and the eye exam is essentially “thrown in” to the deal. It’s not $200 off the eye exam and the glasses combined??

Good morning, my name is Janna Mullaney. I’m the administrator at Katzen Eye Group and I’ll do my best to answer all of your questions.

Jessica, because this offer does not include a contact lens fitting, we may not be able to provide you with a contact lens prescription. If you can wait until tomorrow, you can call our optical department and speak with the manager, Russ, who can be of further assistance.

Christy, this offer is meant to help this that do not have insurance for eye care. however, you may be able use your coverage for a second pair.

Carolyn, first, it’s a package deal, we provide a comprehensive eye exam and $200 toward lenses and frames. The lenses would be around $130, so depending on the frame you select, you should be within the covered amount.

Gina K.

Can the groupon be used for exam and lenses – not frame – only? I have a great frame but it needs lenses. Thank you!

Janna M.

Gina, certainly, we can use your current frames!

I had used this groupon deal for my mom, who doesn’t have insurance, and have to say this is an excellent deal with a great company! They were very professional, friendly, and made the whole process painless. We really loved how it didn’t feel like a used car dealership, in the sense that there was no high pressure sales tactics to try to add on additional unnecessary features to throw in hidden costs. We didn’t have to pay anything above the groupon, which was really wonderful. I’m so glad to see this deal being offered again since it’s really an amazing deal. My mom loves her glasses, though she’s always worried she might lose or break it. I’ve raved about this company to family and friends, and if you need an eye exam and glasses, this is the best deal around! I only wish they would offer it to past customers so she can get a second pair next year as a birthday present from me…

Well, Gail, if you “Like” us on Facebook, we have a special offer for our loyal, established patients. Just print it out and bring your mother in anytime between now and the end of the year.

And thank you so much for the wonderful compliments, we really appreciate the feedback.

Heather H.

I hate to sound like a cheapskate, but as a stay at home mom, we really have to pinch pennies. I was wondering what the cost for the thinnest lense you carry would be for -5.00 in both eyes?

Heather H.

Oops, no astigmatism and no bi-focals.

Janna M.

Heather, we can certainly take care of either with this deal. No line progressives might be slightly more, but depending on the frame you choose, it can still be within the $200 offer.

I am looking for an eye dr. and this sound like a good place to come. I have davisvision insurance but only covers exam. I noticed you take davisvision ins and your office appeals to me because then I can return for reexam’s. I have a family history of glucoma and other eye issues and wondering if the groupon deal covers an extensive exam?

Janna M.

Gail U., yes this is a comprehensive exam including glaucoma testing. We also have a full compliment of sub specialists should you ever need them.

Steve J.

Janna,

In the description of this Groupon offer, it says, “You must purchase both the frames and the lenses.” I already like the frames I have and don’t want new ones. If I need a new prescription, can I use the coupon toward just the exam and new lenses?

I currently have (about) a -13 prescription with high-index (for thinner) lenses, astigmatism correction, no-line bifocals, and a no-scratch (and possibly UV) coating. I do not have vision insurance. After using this coupon, can you estimate how much more I would need to spend (i.e., out of pocket) if I need new lenses?

Finally, I also recently moved to the Baltimore area. Do I need to get my previous optometry records before I see one of your doctors for an exam?

Thank you!

Steve, if you have your records, that’s great but not necessary. You are welcome to use your current frames. In regards to more specific pricing, please call our optical manager, Russ, on Monday and he can answer you questions.

For those of you with pending questions, I am attending a conference in Florida. I will try to check in periodically, but may not get a chance to answer until tomorrow.

Sharon W.

I don’t have insurance and this is a wonderful opportunity for me. Wondering who does the eye exam, optometrist or opthamologist? I may need more than glasses and need a thorough exam. How much detail to the exam I guess is what I’m asking. thanks.

Sean

Does it include a contact lens exam? I don’t need contact lens fitting just a contact lens prescription.

Alexis L.

I was a patient once several years ago—Am I still able to take advantage of this deal?
Thanks!

Janna M.

Sharon, typically, we schedule initial exams with an optometrist, however, we have 8 surgeons on staff should you need them. This offer include a comprehensive examination that includes refraction, glaucoma testing and dilation.

Janna M.
Merchant

Sean, because you would be a new patient, we would not be able to write a contact lens prescription without a fitting.

Janna M.

Alexis, if it has been 5 years or more, you would be considered a new patient.

Could we pay extra for a contact lens fitting? If so, how much extra would it be? Thank you!

Travis K.

Janna, can you tell us more about the deal on facebook for loyal customer?

I understand Groupons are to try and get people in the door, but as someone who always uses Katzen and loves your services, I am upset that I am treated “worse” and can not take advantage of the same deals as other people who have never been.

With that logic I must wait for a different eye care povider to offer a deal to “new” customers and go to them. Then Katzen would lose my business.

Janna M.
Merchant

Margaret, you can add a contact lens fitting to the exam, please call the office to check on pricing as it’s based on several factors. 410-821-9490 option 9.

Travis, I believe the details are all included in the Facebook post. The original intent of our Groupon offer was to provide a means for uninsured patients to get a full eye exam and a pair of glasses at a reasonable price. We certainly do not mean to upset our established patients by making this offer. Our FB offer for loyal patients includes several other discounts not mentioned here.

I’ve used Katzen aesthetics but have never had an eye exam with any of your docs nor purchased glasses/contacts from you. Would I still be considered a new patient and able to purchase this groupon?

Janna M.
Merchant

Susan, if you’ve never been a patient at Katzen Eye Group, just Aesthetics, then you can take advantage of this offer.

Couldn’t be more unhappy with this “deal.” When I went to get my frames and lenses, my eyes were dilated and I couldn’t see prices. The prices were EXTREMELY inflated. I took the prescription to two other chain eye specialists and they both gave me significantly lower prices.

I decided that it was cheaper for me to just pay the $50 for the eye exam and blow off the $200 credit, which was going to cost me $500 anyway.

I love Groupon but this one was seriously not worth it to me.
