Duos and foursomes take to the smooth, glistening ice at Kent Valley Ice Centre during public skating hours, practicing spins and lutzes before refueling at the On the Edge Cafe & Bar. There, they can peruse the menu, which includes a personal pan pizza ($4.99), a club-style BLT ($10.49), or a basket of beer-battered onion rings ($10.99). The café is open Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

During 30-minute classes, approximately 15 fledgling ice skaters learn proper skating techniques, how to build strength and coordination, and methods for improving their balance. Students can use their new skills for a variety of purposes, whether they want to pursue a career in figure skating or hockey or simply find a new workout routine. Choose from weekly classes on Tuesdays or Saturdays and receive free admission to the public skating session after each class.

Kent Valley Ice Centre

Despite its wintery moniker, Kent Valley Ice Centre doesn’t just thrive in the colder months. The public ice skating site and home of the Kent Valley Hockey Association also teems with warm-weather activities, housing miniature golf and batting cages on its sprawling facilities. In addition, the family-friendly sports emporium invites guests to a full-service cafe and bar and a pro shop where visitors can purchase hockey equipment, ice skating gear, and off-duty Olympic judges.

The Groupon Guide to: Displaying Your Varsity Letter

While earning a varsity letter in high-school athletics remains cool, wearing a letterman's jacket to display it isn't quite as cool. Here's how you can show off your athletic achievement without that jacket:

  • Instead of a letterman's jacket, start wearing a pair of letterman's jeans.

  • Turn your varsity letter into something practical that you must use often, such as a swatting device to fend off all the students who want to try to become your best friend.

  • At lunch, pull out a sandwich made of bread and your varsity letter. Then tell all the people you're sitting near: "Not again, you guys. My mom keeps making me a 'reminder of my physical gifts on rye.'"

  • Do that magic trick where you seemingly disappear into a cloud of smoke and, when the smoke clears, all that's left is your varsity letter. That way people will probably carry that letter around school thinking it's you until the end of time.

  • Sew it directly onto your body. If there's ever a time to try sewing something onto your skin, it's when you're young and popular enough to get a nice ceremony should something go horribly wrong.

Hunky guys, you can appear even hunkier in public by combing your hair with your varsity letter.
