In economically strained communities, relatively small loans can provide empowering opportunities to help communities emerge from poverty. Today's G-Team campaign provides a way to participate personally in the microloan process: for $12, you get a $25 microloan credit from Kiva.org. Kiva will add $13 to every $12 purchase, up to $100,000. Once equipped with a Kiva credit, bestow it upon a worthy friend or spin Kiva's e-globe yourself to read about those in need of support. As borrowers repay the loans over time, Kiva returns the $12 funds to each lender, who can choose to make another loan, donate the funds to Kiva to assist with operational costs, or withdraw the funds via PayPal. Any repayments by borrowers over the $12 purchase value will be returned to Kiva.

Kiva facilitates the distribution of microloans to highly motivated low-income borrowers in developing areas of the world. Microloans help jumpstart the work of both individuals and groups engaged in a variety of sectors such as agriculture, health, and transportation. Through connections within a trusted network of microfinance institutions—or field partners—Kiva helps to support business owners such as a woman in Mozambique who needed $300 to buy chicks, feed, and vaccines for her poultry farm; a Mongolian father of three who received $1,925 to invest in his burgeoning meat-trading business; and a Kenyan mother who has used microloans to scale up her farm.

Since its inception six years ago, Kiva's community has provided more than $230 million in microloans to more than 600,000 industrious individuals on five continents. Have a question?

$13 will be added to all loans up to $100,000 by Kiva.
