La Luce

A stately, four-story Victorian building sits on the corner of Lake and Loomis in the shadow of the “L” train tracks. Built in 1892, its façade of marinara-red brick now houses La Luce, an Italian restaurant run by the Moretti family. The fare here hails from the country's northern region and focuses on simple dishes made from fresh ingredients. Chefs combine housemade pastas with light, creamy, or herbed sauces and sauté hearty cuts of meat in flavorful wines. Servers transport these and other plates to the softly lit dining room, where exposed-brick walls and vintage woodwork create a cozy atmosphere for date nights, family dinners, or gatherings of Al Capone impersonators.
