Two forces have constantly battled for Laura MacPhee’s affection: her career as photographer and her hometown of Halifax. After studying photography in the city, Laura skipped graduation to hop on a plane to New York City, where she began sharpening her skills as an intern at the Knot. Homesick for Nova Scotia after a year and a half, she returned to Halifax and synergized those competing forces by founding Laura MacPhee Photography.

Amid the region’s breathtaking terrain, Laura flashes her camera at expectant moms, families, and engaged couples. Portrait sessions also occur in her studio on the Halifax waterfront, where she also orchestrates intimate boudoir sessions. For weddings, she and a trusted second photographer shoot up to eight hours of coverage, which newlyweds can preserve with prints, hardcover books, or new wedding veils made out of negative film strips. Despite being stationed in Halifax, Laura happily travels for destination weddings; thus far, her passport has been stamped for work in Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
