Lenny's Sub Shop
Though Len Moore eventually became the head of a national chain of sub shops, he started rather humbly, as a kid bussing tables and washing dishes. But he was ambitious, and was promoted to general manager by the time he was 18. Over the years he honed his skills in management positions with Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesday, and TGI Fridays before he and his wife decided to open their own place, Lenny's Sub Shop. He only ever expected to open the single location, but over the years it grew into a family of franchises that can be found in several states.
Even as a national chain, Lenny's still keeps the personality of a true deli or independent eatery. As you enter one of their shops, you might notice the smell of bread and cookies baking in the kitchen. As you step up to the counter, you won't see containers of presliced meats; instead, your meat is sliced for you when you order, generous portions that range from a half pound to a full pound. And because they bring the sandwich to your table, instead of making you stand there and wait for it, they can take a bit more time with it, baking signature creations like their philly cheesesteak and adding specialty toppings, including hot pepper relish. When you're done with your meal, don't worry about cleaning up after yourself: the staff will bus your table for you, just like Len used to.
