lil' bean n' green

Taking children to a non-family-friendly restaurant can be a hassle, as pals and new parents Meray Mansour and April Cook, quickly discovered. But this discovery, mentioned by BlogTO, led the duo to establish lil' bean n' green, a kid-friendly coffee shop that invites parents to kick back inside a vintage-inspired café while their little ones burn off energy in a whimsical playroom. Since opening in 2009, the Leslieville cafe has gained praise from the media, including Toronto Mom Now, who applauded the café for creating "a hub for neighbourhood parents to meet and share in the joys, triumphs and defeats of child rearing."

To promote bonding, kids and parents are encouraged to explore the colourful playroom, where they can climb on a yellow tree house or partake in the café’s monthly events, such as sing-alongs and children's foreign-language classes. When kids and caregivers need a break, they can head to the front of the café and lounge at wood tables filled with gourmet eats such as thin-crust pizzas and fair-trade coffee, as well as kid-friendly items such as avocado slices, pancakes, and yogourt. lil’ bean's chefs handcraft the menu's dishes from organic and local ingredients, including cheese from Leslieville Cheese Market and locally roasted beans from Velvet Sunrise.

In addition to the playroom and adult café, lil’ bean n' green caters to families by offering babysitting services as well as fun, seasonal accessories, such as little girls' tutus, retailed in the boutique area.

It's a fun, safe place for me to go with my baby and meet up with other parents for play dates. The cafe area has a pretty cool vibe to it.
