The Issue: Rescued Puppy with Valley Fever

Shasta, a german-shepherd puppy at a local Tucson shelter, was limping—and on the list of animals to be euthanized. So the volunteers of Little League Rescue took him from the shelter and brought him in for a medical exam, where x-rays and tests revealed that a disease called valley fever had deteriorated the bone in one of his front legs beyond repair. Since medication has not slowed the disease, Shasta needs immediate amputation to prevent it from spreading further.

The Campaign: Providing Life-Saving Surgery

All donations to this Grassroots campaign will be used by Little League Rescue to help Shasta overcome his valley fever. The first $500 of donations will cover the costs of front-leg amputation surgery, and all additional donations will be put toward physical therapy and a wheelchair. Once he has recovered from surgery and been through physical therapy, Shasta should once again be a happy, healthy puppy ready to find a permanent home.

Little League Rescue

Little League Rescue changes the fate of animals on high-kill shelters' euthanasia lists. The volunteer-run rescue lifts the animals out of the shelter system, placing them instead in loving, temporary foster homes. Many of these animals are ill, injured, or suffering from malnourishment, so the organization attains the necessary medical care to return them to health. Every animal is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, and loving foster parents, as well as trainers, help them overcome psychological issues and again be healthy, happy pets ready for their permanent homes.
