Before man conquered his fear of water, he amused himself with dust sports such as pushing boulders off cliffs, wrestling tumbleweeds, and falling in the dust. Rinse yourself off with this Groupon.

Choose Between Two Options

  • $45 for a two-hour standup-paddleboard course for in individual (a $99 value)
  • $85 for a romantic two-hour evening standup-paddleboard course for a couple (a $198 value)

From May through September—weather and water conditions permitting—Groupon holders follow along as a guide teaches standup-paddleboard basics and water-safety skills before turning paddlers loose on waterways including Tailrace Marina, Lake Norman, Lake Wylie, Mountain Island Lake, and the Catawba River. Evening cruises gain a romantic edge over their diurnal counterparts as the sun’s dip toward the horizon coincides with the bullfrog jazz band’s rehearsals. On weekends, daytime tours run from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and evening tours run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. All gear is provided.

Local Paddler

After listening to professional instruction from Local Paddler's guides, total novices can paddle their standup paddleboards through the crystalline waters of North Carolina's lakes and rivers. Instructors teach newbies to stand upright on their boards, showcase J-strokes, sweep strokes, and other fundamentals, and also impart water-safety lessons, such as never drink the entire lake in one sitting. Local Paddler's shop furnishes all equipment for aquatic adventures, which unfold along the scenic shorelines of Falls Lake, Wake Forest Reservoir, Lake Norman, Lake Wylie, Tailrace Marina, Mountain Island Lake, or the Catawba River.
