Click here for a list of valid treatment areas. During the minimally invasive Cynosure Smartlipo treatment, the doctor injects a local anesthetic into the targeted area to numb it. The doctor then makes a small incision in the treatment area and inserts a cannula. A laser fiber inside the cannula then blasts fat cells with energy, causing them to liquefy. If the area is large enough, the doctor will suction out the liquefied fat with a cannula, and if it is small enough, the liquefied fat will be allowed to simply drain away. The laser also stimulates the production of collagen, tightening the treatment areas. Compared to traditional liposuction, the procedure results in less downtime and bruising. There may be an additional fee for patients who have a body-mass index of more than 32.
