Los Mariachis

Bartenders fill shakers with icy pomegranate and Midori margaritas, then punctuate the voices of diners with their staccato rhythms. Servers, meanwhile, deliver sizzling cast-iron skillets of steak fajitas and barbecue-pork-stuffed quesadillas. Featured in a 2008 article in the New Haven Advocate for their distinctly authentic Mexican food, the cooks at Los Mariachis have earned a reputation for the care they take when crafting soft tortillas and salsa verde. They pair these mainstays with dishes such as fish burritos filled with sautéed tilapia and avocado and tacos. Housemade desserts such as flan and fried ice cream finish off meals on a sweet note, like the notes moms tuck into their children's sandwiches.

The cuisine isn't the restaurant's only draw. Red walls with colorful paintings of traditional Mexican vases give the eatery a warm atmosphere, which was even featured in the independent film Burial Boys. The new outdoor patio features umbrella-topped tables for dining alfresco or keeping enchiladas out of sight of hungry paratroopers.

The Groupon Guide to: Rhyming Sayings about Musical Genres

Everyone knows Duke Ellington’s famous lyrical throwing down of the gauntlet: “It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing.” But what most people don’t know is that every genre of music has since answered Mr. Ellington’s assertion. Here are their rhymes:

  • “If the music’s not punk, it’s stupid boring junk."
  • “If it ain’t rock ‘n’ roll, throw it in toilet bowl."
  • “Music not classical is certainly crass, not droll."
  • “If it ain’t Afro-Caribbean jazz, don’t expect razzmatazz."
  • “If it isn’t dubstep, * the sound of computers from the '80s falling down some stairs onto many scared dogs *."
  • “If it ain’t post-industrial Nordic death metal, it is a baby’s sadness."(translated from Norwegian)

In Norwegian proverbs, most things are compared to a baby’s sadness.
