Swedish techniques knead muscles while following the blood as it returns to the heart, and deep-tissue focuses on muscle fibers, tendons, and fascia beneath the surface. During hot-stone massages, the therapist places smooth and toasty basalt stones on the back, palms, and toes, and may also hold the stones while massaging muscles.
