The full day of whitewater rafting begins at 8:30 a.m. when adventurers check in at the Wilderness Edge Campground. Transportation is then provided to and from the Penobscot River. Led by a registered Maine guide, rafters embark on 16 miles of Class V and IV whitewater rafting as they soak in views of Mount Katahdin, Baxter State Park, and various local wildlife, such as eagles and moose. The trip includes a break for a riverside barbecue with the rafter's choice of steak, chicken, salmon, or a veggie wrap. Groups return to the campground between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The camping option includes access to a campsite equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. Wilderness Edge Campground sells firewood, ice, drinks, and snacks and also rents cabin tents, which shield campers with a metal roof and open screens.

Rates fluctuate throughout the week and month.

Maine Rafting Expeditions

With an experienced guide at the helm, eager explorers pile into Maine Rafting Expedition’s brightly colored rafts, ready to crash over rumbling rapids throughout Maine’s rivers. Their excursions suit adventurers of all abilities, from more relaxed family- and kid-friendly jaunts through the Penobscot River’s Class III and IV rapids to white-knuckle-inducing trips through Canada Falls’ Class-V rapids and a 20-foot waterfall. The most popular trip runs down 16 miles of the Penobscot River, whose Class IV and V rapids offer a heart-pumping ride for paddlers and wild moose aged 14 and up. The seasoned guides also lead overnight expeditions, which break for slumber at fully equipped campsites along the river. On every trip, rafters can fuel up with the included riverside barbecues and commemorate their journeys with photos and videos available for purchase.

The Groupon Guide to: Using a Map

In this modern age of technology reliance, most people have completely forgotten how to use a good old-fashioned paper map. Here’s a quick refresher:

Find a place that sells maps. Maps are probably sold at like a map store? Look it up on your phone.

Buy a map at the place that sells the maps. Make sure you buy a good map. Use your phone to see who makes the best maps.

Unfold the map. This is the worst part. Put your phone in your pocket or your mouth for a minute while you use both hands to open up the stupid map.

Look at the map. This is the other worst part. You can only look at the map. It doesn’t do anything when you touch it or ask it to play the songs. It just sits there.

Go to the place on the map. Once you get there, use your phone to reflect sunlight onto the map so it burns. It burns away. It goes away. It doesn’t come back. The fire makes it nothing. Take a picture of the nothingness with your phone.

What is the most flammable kind of map? Find out in today's Groupon Guide.
