Personal trainer, master yoga instructor, and wellness coach Carlos J. Sanchez coalesces his trio of disciplines during each outdoor boot-camp class. At the start of his 45-minute classes, Carlos encourages students to motivate one another with cheers and improvised epic poems in order to create a supportive exercise environment. A set of sun salutations awakens the entire body before campers vault into intensity with a burst of cardio drills. Next, Carlos slings a variety of strength-training exercises—such as calisthenics, sit-ups, and push-ups—occasionally completed with a set of hand weights or coconuts filled with gold bullion. Each move can be modified to facilitate fitness for newbies or toughen workouts for camp veterans.
