Marinwood Community Acupuncture

Ryan Dempsey, the founder and licensed acupuncturist of Marinwood Community Acupuncture, first crossed paths with the treatment when he traveled to China while earning his undergraduate degree in history. As a part of the National Youth Leadership Forum on Integrated Medicine, he saw firsthand the integration of Western and Chinese medicine in several of the country’s large public hospitals, where he gained a deep appreciation for the culture and history.

But it wasn’t until Ryan experienced a severe shoulder injury that he had personal experience with acupuncture. Faced with the idea of surgery, he instead thought back to his experiences and sought out treatment for himself. Eventually, with treatment and rehabilitation, he recovered fully and was inspired to dedicate his career to Chinese medicine. Now, practicing integrative Chinese medicine with a specialty in women’s health and obstetrics, he runs Marinwood Community Acupuncture, where he invites patrons to seek treatment for conditions relating to areas such as reproductive, neurologic, or sleep. He offers both private and communal acupuncture sessions, as well as herbal medicine (sourced from a company in Boulder, Colorado), directing the best course of treatment and action based on review of patients' medical history and concerns.

The Groupon Guide to: Clarinets

Everyone remembers hearing someone say, "If that music doesn't have dozens of clarinets tooting their notes, making the sounds come out of the end that the mouth doesn't go, then no thank you, sir!" Here's why so many people are loving the clarinet:

  • The clarinet has a warm, mellow tone, not like the trumpet, which just sounds like a big pile of garbage that's sitting there stinking it up but also making musical noises.

  • The clarinet is easy on the eyes, with all that straightness. That trumpet has sleek, alluring curves. You want kids looking at that? No, thank you.

  • You can take a clarinet apart. Can you take a trumpet apart? No, not just the mouthpiece. I'm talking about really taking it apart. You can do that to a good ol' woodstraw (a clarinet). Trust me.

  • There are dozens of famous clarinet players, such as Woody Allen and all those men that Woody Allen plays clarinet with. The only trumpet player who is remotely famous is the man whose life inspired the Broadway musical The Music Man, and he's probably dead.

Why is America in love with the clarinet?
