Savour the Summer classes let students create delicious, plant-based recipes. Get Hydrated with Juices & Smoothies teaches the difference between juice and smoothies, and how to stay healthy with options such as carrot-apple juice and Chocolate Super smoothie. Build the Freshest Summer Salads introduces a unique side to salads, and Nibble on Appetizers and Dips is filled with different recipes for those who enjoy partaking in food such as green-pea guacamole and spinach-almond patties. Snack on Sides and Specialities teaches how to round out menus and complete meals with sides such as quinoa tabule salad. All classes are from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Certified nutritional practitioner Marni Wasserman packs a full day of knowledge and nourishment into the Raw Urban Detox Retreat. First, participants attend a yoga class led by an industry expert at the beginning of the day, and then meet up with Wasserman to learn how to make an açai-berry smoothie to accompany a raw breakfast. A workshop based on Wasserman’s eBook Cleansing with Super Foods follows.
During lunch, she teaches participants how to craft raw nori rolls and kale slaw, and then leads a beauty lesson using natural-skincare products before introducing students to detoxifying green juice during a juice break. At dinner, she and her students create a raw Italian meal and enjoy chocolate-avocado pudding before watching a documentary on health. Retreats are held from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
