The center’s special tattoo-removal equipment was designed by Quanta—the company whose lasers have partnered with CERN, sliced De Beers diamonds out of the rough, and helped restore the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Memphis Laser Clinic uses Quanta's Q-Plus C system, which targets pigments with controlled micropulses of laser light energy that destabilize the ink and allow the circulatory system to naturally dissolve the design. These pulses can affect virtually any ink—including deep blues, bright greens, and rarely glimpsed infrareds—and they cause minimal discomfort to the surrounding tissue. To help soothe the skin, technicians can utilize a cryogenic skin-cooling system, but the laser can still cause the sensation of a snapping rubber band with each pulse.
