The Issue: Cost of Food and Supplies for Rescue Shelter
Currently, Mended Hearts Rescue has nearly 50 rescued cats and dogs in its care awaiting permanent adoption. Although the organization can purchase the food at a reduced rate from a company in Bloomington, Indiana, the costs of cat and dog food are still significant. If Mended Hearts Rescue can stock its pantry with food, the organization can instead use its limited funding to provide much-needed medical care to rescued animals.
The Campaign: Feeding Rescued Shelter Animals
All donations to this Grassroots campaign will be used by Mended Hearts Rescue to feed its rescue animals. For every $300 raised, Mended Hearts Rescue can feed all of its rescue animals for one month. On average, the organization uses 500 pounds of dog food and 100 pounds of cat food each month.
All donations will be matched up to $500 by Indy Pit Crew.
Mended Hearts Rescue
Founded by a pair of animal lovers, Mended Hearts Rescue is dedicated to the rehabilitation and rehoming of animals of all breeds, ages, and capabilities. To date in 2013, Mended Hearts Rescue has transferred and treated 97 dogs from city shelters that needed special care following a period of neglect. Once rescued, a veterinarian—and in some cases a behaviorist and specialty veterinarian—examine animals and establish a plan to rehabilitate them. When dogs are healthy, their profiles are posted on Petfinder to help find them loving homes.
