If tea is the thinking person's coffee, then coffee is the tea for the thinking person's action hero. Caffeinate and consume with today's Groupon: $5 for $10 worth of organic, fair-trade coffee and casual fare at Morning Glory Coffeehouse in Morningside. Open every day, Morning Glory features free WiFi, signature sips, and intimate live music.

Warm up with the Rhode Island coffeemilk latte, or café con cocoa made with soy milk. Lunch options include healthful fare such as the mo-glo hummus wrap with homemade hummus, feta, fresh tomatoes (or "vineapples"), manzanilla olives, and baby spinach. You'll also find veggie burritos, quiches, rotating soups, and panini. For dessert, Morning Glory features iced coffee floats, sorbets, and ice creams, all of which can be mixed together to form a fleetingly beautiful snowpaste.

Charming décor (hobbit-themed signage, a vintage fooseball machine, decorative wall art) gives the neighborhood caffeination station personality, while live events encourage loitering. Morning Glory is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Reviews

The Pittsburgh City Paper picked Morning Glory as the city's best place to see unusual folk music. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Sweet-Cakes & Milkshakes has featured the coffeehouse as well:

  • It's my "runner up" for best coffee in Pittsburgh (I had 2 lattes!). I think that says it all --- try it and you'll agree! Be sure to try their signature Rhode Island Coffeemilk Latte --- subtle but delicious. – Kelly McCormick, Sweet-Cakes & Milkshakes

Two Yelpers give Morning Glory a perfect five-star rating. 91% of Urbanspooners recommend it:

  • It has brought a community meeting place, a great place to have a healthy lunch, a great vibe, and last, but not least, some wonderful coffee to an up-and-coming neighborhood. Highlights for me are the veggie chili, the wide array of pescatarian sandwiches, bagels and snacks, the free fast Wi-Fi, and a welcoming and friendly staff and atmosphere. – Jason Sturgill, Urbanspoon
  • This place is the hidden jewel of Morningside, a sanctuary of peace, calm rationality, and coolness in a crazy, chaotic world. – gary-goldberg-md, Urbanspoon

Coffeelionaires

Coffee, also known as "black gold," has made numerous men rich: some in spirit, some in actual wealth. Those with actual wealth often spend it on VR booths, in which the only danger is the virtual-reality beings coming to life and becoming insane with existential crises.

The world's coffee millionaires, who refer to themselves as "coffeelionaires" or "The Pepsi Energy Cola Presents The Coffeelionaires Presented by Pepsi," are a secretive bunch, distinguishable by their lack of facial hair and enjoyment of college football. If you see one, look away, for his terrifying countenance will make you left-handed for days at a time. Enjoy your coffee, but know that you are adding to the coffers of men who sleep on beds of money and hire others to come down with illnesses in their stead.
