Muay Thai Lao Kickboxing Academy

The life of Muay Thai Lao Kickboxing Academy's master trainer, Ajarn Andy, has been defined by his ability to persevere as a political refugee forced to flee his hometown in Laos. At the tender age of eight, the muay-thai legend began training in his ancestors' ancient "art of eight limbs," derived from a nursery rhyme about a spider, a spout, and revenge. Countless successful kickboxing fights throughout his 20s allowed him to snatch the Muay Thai Championship of Laddamnern Stadium in Thailand, essentially earning him passage to the United States in 1982.

Ajarn Andy's story of overcoming the odds inspires students at his academies in Sacramento and Elk Grove, where punching bags line concrete walls and wait patiently for flurries delivered by padded fists. A full schedule of morning, afternoon, and evening kickboxing classes welcomes men, women, and children ages six and up. Kick-boxers of all skill levels can participate in muay-thai training to achieve a variety of personal goals, such as shedding weight or walking the path of muay-thai champion, which Andy himself has marched.
