Current exhibitions include Capital of Capital, providing a look into New York's innovative and controversial banking sector; Activist New York, an exploration of the social activism that has helped to shape the city; and The Greatest Grid: The Master Plan of Manhattan, 1811–2011, showcasing maps, blueprints, and photographs that demonstrate the city's rise to significance (closes July 15, 2012).

Museum of the City of New York

The Museum of the City of New York chronicles local culture through an array of exhibits, interactive programs, publications, and other media. Founded in 1923 and housed in a landmark building, the nonprofit museum hosts temporary exhibitions to complement extensive permanent collections. Hallways and gallery spaces invite guests inside to study historic maps, photographs of life and architecture, and artwork, as well as vintage displays gathering toys, fashion, and furniture—providing more insight into the city's rich character than the diary of Regis Philbin. Docents and visiting artists aim to highlight the city's diversity and heritage through public programs and events, such as gallery tours and performances as well as symposiums and panels. A gift shop allows visitors to bring home a taste of the Big Apple via city-spirited books, clothing, posters, music, films, and handmade goods.

The Groupon Guide to: Looking Dignified

Even the most dignified individual you've ever happened upon only looked partially dignified unless he was wearing every single component of the Official Outfit of Truly Dignified Individuals:

  • A top hat
  • A bottom hat
  • A class ring from one of the top 10 most dignified party schools
  • A monocle
  • A second monocle
  • Two hearing monocles
  • A waistcoat in colors supporting the most dignified NFL franchise, the Raiders
  • A pocket watch concealing a tiny digital clock so you can actually tell what time it is
  • A self-satisfied expression as you open the car door for someone as if they were a child
  • A shoulder-trained parrot wearing all of the above

Are you fully dressed without at least one monocle?
