Questions and Answers
how much is a wash, haircut and blow dry for people with long hair?
Has anyone been to this salon
Excellent Salon. I get cut and color here. Aaron is amazing. Does a fantastic job with the blowout, and I’m extremely picky.
Is keratine included??
do they do curly?
what is included in this deal? just hair services or can you do a wax, mani/pedi type combo?
Can you guys work with naturally curly mixed race (b&w) hair?
There are so many good reviews about color. I wonder how well the salon does with perm, and for middle-length how much they charge.
I actually went to this salon about a month ago. For full highlights and a cut it cost around $160. The quality of service was just O.K, the problem is the stylist didn’t spend anytime being clear on communication of what I wanted, which resulted in her suddenly chopping my hair off for bangs. The color wasn’t exactly what I wanted either over processed underneath and under on the top.
But I think all this was because I just walked in on a busy holiday Monday and they agreed to take me despite having a fully booked staff (all salons of this type do this) But they were very friendly and polite. They didn’t give a negative attitude that I asked to use a new customer discount and sent me a thank you letter the next day in the mail. I would try them again, but with a senior stylist and make an appointment for a less busy time and maybe not something as drastic as a cut and color.

Best,
Christine
Hi Christine,
I was wondering if you have to use the entire groupon in one visit. For instance could I get a cut one day and come back for a blowdry another time?
Thank you
Hi Christine— this looks great! Is it one groupon per visit or per client? (i.e. Could I get multiple groupons and come in one day for a cut/blowdry, and then come back on another day and use a second groupon for highlighting, etc?)
Thanks!
Daniela
can I use this today if we get the deal and I can get an appointment?
Hi Jenna, the Coupon is valid for one visit only.
Christine, if I have the keratin process, is the price $50 regardless of the length of my hair. I have medium/long curly hair. If not, could you please tell me how much I would have to pay in addition to the $50 groupon coupon.
Ignore my comment, have my answer….thanks
I actually already have a gift certificate to this salon. Can it be combined with the groupon? I get highlights so each visit would be more than $110 anyway.

I know I would not use the entire Groupon in one visit, since I only need a shampoo, cut and blowdry. However, would I be able to use the remainder of the Groupon as a tip for the stylist?
Can I use the Groupon for Brazilian straightening (at least, $110 worth of the $200+)?
How much does the salon chrage for perm, mid-length hair?
Sounds like a good deal. How much would it be for highlights and low-lights (to cover the grey) for medium (shoulder) length hair? Plus maybe a conditioning or gloss treatment?
Eva you will most likely need a single process color to cover the grey before doing your highlights. Color is $70, full head of highlights is $175 and up, $120 and up for half head and $80 and up for 1/4 head of highlights. We charge $120 and up for perm. and $250 and up for Brazilian Straightening. The Groupon is not redeemable for gratuity. Contact our reception now for more information and to make your reservation: 212.472.7200
Your website says highlights start at $55, can you clarify please.
can it be combined with a gift certificate?

Hi christine! I was wondering if your salon offers color correction services? I just got my hair done one week ago and I am horrified by the results, would love to come MV Salon and get it completely re-done.
Christine- the groupon description for your salon says straightening starts at $200, not $250…. Also, what would make the straightening cost more? Longer hair? Curlier hair? Please explain…thanks!!!! :)
For any questions you may have feel free to contact MV Salon directly at 212-472-7200.
Looking forward to see you all!!
Have a great night!!
BIG THUMBS DOWN! I used my Groupon and not happy what they did with my hair AT ALL! Basically, for a hair cut and a coloring they overcharged me by $30 (after I argued with them, they brought it down to $20). So the real cost is $140 because they include a separate charge for blow-drying (which I think is ridiculous). Second, they didn’t have the color I wanted so I had to go with a different color. Initially, I hated it, then I was OK with it, now I hate again. The cut was OK but it was styled exactly the OPPOSITE of what I told the stylist. The lady who washed my hair gave me a great head and neck massage. That was the saving grace of the service…
I need to amend my initial review. All my friends think I look hot! So, apparently, I am just having difficult time with the change… but it’s for the best! Glad I got this deal. My hair looks great!
I used my groupon today and I was soooo disappointed with the whole experience. First of all, the website is really misleading. The picture makes it look like a spacious, upscale salon where you’ll have a calm, pleasant and relaxing afternoon. Not it at all! It was total chaos. The atmosphere is like a very busy supercuts with nowhere to really relax. My hair cutter was with someone else when I arrived and initially that was ok since I was getting a deep conditioning first (to use up the whole groupon in one shot). The woman who washed my hair kept getting water in my ears. The head massage and shampoo are usually my favorite part and she wasn’t very good and was using her nails to scratch my scalp. Kind of uncomfortable. And while that was happening, another employee was practically sitting on my lap eating Chinese food for lunch. It’s a really small space, but c’mon, it was a beautiful day out and employees should not be eating their lunch while people are having their hair washed and cut. Then I kept being moved around while I waited for him to finish up. I had told them when I scheduled that I wanted someone who could use a razor but when I finally sat down with my guy, he said he doesn’t like using it. So fine, whatever, I just wanted it to look good so I showed him the length I wanted and that I wanted some layers and movement in my haircut like the razor does. So after going through that he held his hand up to my chin and said, “start the layers here?” after I clearly had said not above my shoulders. Then he cut my hair, blow dried and he just hadn’t cut like half of my hair! It was still the same length as when I walked in and full of split ends. So I had to be pushy and show him again what I wanted and he complied but did seem annoyed and overly patronizing about doing it. “Of course, of course. Whatever you want!” When he was blow drying my hair, he had the heat on WAY too high and burned my scalp a few times enough that I had to flinch to get away from it. In all the years of getting my hair cut, I have NEVER had that happen to me. It looked pretty and shiny when he was done but I noticed a few minutes later when i was walking outside that he’d blow dried the front so it fell directly in front of my face and I couldn’t get it stay to the side (I don’t have bangs but that’s how he styled it). I luckily remembered my sunglasses today and was able to use them like a head band to keep my hair out of my face so I could see.
So after all this I was sort of disappointed but not overly negative about all of it. I told some friends that I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend it like I do with things I love but I wouldn’t tell anyone not to go – and then went back to their website to reread the reviews and see if I could figure out how the picture was manipulated to look like that…and then I clicked the link to CitySearch reviews. I read all the bad ones and they seemed pretty accurate to my experience today. And then I read a few of the 5 star ones and they sound like they’re written either by the stylist or by someone hired by the shop to write positive CitySearch reviews on regular intervals. I clicked on the profiles of a lot of the 5 star reviews in the first 3 pages, and strangely enough, they’ve only ever written one review EVER on CitySearch. Most people on CitySearch (who are real people) review more than one thing. Those of us who are likely to rave about one thing like these ones will typically rave about other things (I’m like that) and none of these “people” did. I’m sure now that I’ve posted this and I wrote a review pointing this out on City that these other profiles will start reviewing other things (that is if the fake person remembers their log in information to do this. If it weren’t for all those fake reviews, I would have given it mediocre reviews but wouldn’t have been entirely negative but I feel like it’s just a scam now. It does NOT feel like Paris, it is not amazing, the staff are not friendly or helpful, and I honestly don’t think they actually used the products they say they do – it IS an inexpensive hair cut that probably won’t be terrible but my hair doesn’t smell like high quality products were used on it. I’ve been to some nice salons in NY and other places and my hair has always smelled so great but it really just smells like Dove bar soap. Maybe I’m just not familiar with the brand they use, but something seems off.
So for those of you who bought this and might happen to check back and read this comment section, I recommend using it for just a hair cut, use the deep conditioning to use up the rest of your dollar amount, and be firm with whoever cuts your hair. If you check CS and read the bad reviews which I recommend doing so you go in prepared, the other reviewers wrote that they didn’t get the hair cut they wanted or they had to fight for it….or just give the Groupon to someone as a gift! (kidding)
I used this groupon on saturday and it went really well! I got highlights, lowlights, a cut and a blowdry. I paid $45 cash on top of the Groupon, before tip.
The place felt a little like an assembly line of stylists and customers… it doesn’t feel very personal, there’s no wine… the seating is a little uncomfortable. My stylist, however, did a fantastic job asking me what I wanted and he gave me exactly what I wanted. I am now blonde again (good by 6 months of roots).
The best way to put it is that they do a great job on your hair, but the experience is less than memorable. My regular salon does just as good of a job, except it costs about $40 total more, it’s more personal, and I get wine.
I guess I just really wish they gave me wine.

After making the appointment a week in advance, I made good use of my Groupon yesterday, and it made a fairly expensive full head of highlights and lowlights PLUS expert long layered thick straight haircut, shampoo and blowout about 25 percent less expensive. Kristina is an expert colorist and also gifted with adding some wake up and shake your head style to long thick straight hair. The shampoo was an extra treat with a lengthy scalp massage. The atmosphere of the salon is bright, cozy and BUSY and I am just very glad to have been introduced to the salon by the Groupon value. Thanks!
I went a week ago and got the hair straightening treatment. excellent treatment, crappy haircut, am going to go somewhere else to get the cut done properly. I agree wtih others, the web site is VERY misleading – and they offer coffee, water, or anything. Very crowded, seems like a decent enough neighborhood place but I would l not go out of my way to recommend it/
I had my hair highlighted today and I think they did a very good job. The atmosphere was not chic, but very friendly and comfortable. I was lucky to get Esther and she gave me exactly what I wanted. She didn’t hold my hand the entire time and stay with me but attended other projects, but I think it isn’t a problem since she has good time management and knows what she’s doing. The shampoo attendants also were nice and gave a lengthy scalp massage. I’d return for other services too.
I went for a body wave perm for my short hair (above my shoulders) and a cut. I was charged $84. ON TOP OF the $110 Groupon!!! She told me that my perm was $150. I commented that on their ratecard (in-store and online) it says $60 and up and she said that “perms are more than haircoloring/highlights b/c they last six months and not just one.”
This is why I came back to this discussion and found “Christine M’s” comments here telling Ming L. that a perm starts at $120. I think this salon is looking to gain new business through their groupon, in reality making it not a “coupon” or a deal at all!!
The way I look at it: $60 and up for a perm (on rate card) + $60 (savings from groupon)= $120 and up cost for a perm when using a groupon (as Quoted by Christine M above)
On top of this, my hair was almost completely straight less than 4 hours after the treatment!!! Needless to say, I will not be back, and am contemplating reversing the charge for the additional fee!!!
My mistake was telling them that I was using a groupon before finding out the total service fee. I’ve been using groupons for a while and have never experienced this before. Very disappointing!!!
ADVICE: mention GROUPON only AFTER they give you the total for services rendered!!

OMG WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!! I used my Groupon at MV Salon this past Saturday. I called well in advance to make the appt., and was very clear about telling the person with whom I spoke that I would be using a Groupon. I asked what would be the best way to use up the full amount of the Groupon ($110), since you had to use the entire Groupon during one visit. The person (a woman) said “No problem! You can see one of our top stylists at $70, and then get a $40 gloss.” Great, I thought. Until I got to this nightmare of a place….Upon arrival at the shop, I immediately pulled out my Groupon and handed it to the receptionist (who sounded like the same person with whom I spoke on the phone). She said “OK, yes, you will be seeing a top stylist and getting a gloss.” Once again, I thought, “Great!” WRONG!!!!!! Let me be clear that I have no beef with the stylist (Mandy). She was excellent, and gave me one of the best cuts I’ve ever had. And, as several other Groupies have noted, the shampoo and neck massage were excellent as well. However, I will NEVER AGAIN set foot in this place. Why? Well, I got shampooed first, and then Mandy cut my hair. As she was finishing up and blow drying my hair, I asked her when the “gloss” would be applied. Now mind you, I was seated right up front near the receptionist’s perch (and as other Groupies have noted, this is a very small, very chaotic shop—not at all like the pictures on the website would have you believe!!!). Upon hearing my question to the stylist, the receptionist immediately swooped down from her perch and seated herself beside me and said, “Sorry, it’s too late now, your hair has already been cut and blow dried; the gloss should have been applied BEFORE the stylist cut your hair.” At which point I said, “Well, why can’t you apply the gloss now?” The receptionist then began arguing with me in a very nasty tone, saying that there’s no way they can apply the gloss now, and that I should have thought of this prior to letting the stylist cut my hair. (I should have thought of this?? Whatever happened to good customer service?!?!?!? She was certainly close enough to the situation to see that the gloss had not been applied prior to having my hair cur, so why didn’t SHE say something to the stylist herself????) I then said, “Well, I have a Groupon for $110, and I’m not leaving until you provide me with $110 worth of service, AS PER YOUR AGREEMENT WITH THE GROUPON PROGRAM.” At which point she said (in a very loud nasty voice), “BUT YOU ONLY PAID $50, SO WHY SHOULD WE GIVE YOU $110 WORTH OF SERVICE?” When I replied (just as loudly) “OK, SO ARE YOU TELLING ME YOU ARE WILLING TO VIOLATE THE AGREEMENT YOU HAVE WITH GROUPON AND DENY ME THE FULL COST OF MY PURCHASE?” she finally relented, but then said (rather cuttingly) “Don’t expect us to blow-dry your hair again, or else we will charge you for that!!!” Thankfully, the stylist made everything right. She took me back to the shampoo area, applied the gloss, and then said not to worry, she would go ahead and blow dry my hair again at no charge since she felt that it was partly her error for not asking if I had purchased any other services prior to cutting my hair. What a bad experience!!!! To any other Groupies out there who have not yet cashed in their Groupon for this salon, all I have to say is WATCH OUT FOR THAT HORRID RECEPTIONIST, be VERY CLEAR UP FRONT about what services you want, and DON’T BE AFRAID TO GET UGLY WITH THESE PEOPLE IF THEY TRY TO DENY YOU THE FULL USE OF YOUR GROUPON!!!!! Good luck, and try to enjoy your visit at this little shop of horrors!!!!!

My review of this place is mixed…went yesterday to redeem my groupon. Spoke with the receptionist Christine and asked for a cut and color. First I requested Eszter and she said they don’t accept the groupon for her or Caroline. Having read some of these reviews I asked what the price would be for a cut and toner. She replied $70 and 35. Total $105 (within the groupon) so I booked it. She said that another stylist Christina could take me later that day.
First impressions when I got there, the place was much smaller than the pictures, but no worries. The only problem was the fumes from all the chemicals didn’t disperse well. They need a new HVAC system or bigger fans than the ones on each station. However that was the least of my problems…the stylist was very sweet the whole time. However, most of my process including the application of my toner was done by the Asian lady washing my hair (who didn’t speak very good english). She left me with her while she did highlights for another customer. NEVER HAVE I HAD A STYLIST WORK ON 2 PEOPLE AT ONCE but it seemed to be customary there.
At one point I actually had to go over and tell her my 25 minutes were up, it was like nobody really cared. She told the hair washer to wash me out. The only good part of the whole visit was the amazing head massage. I should have just paid the hair washer the $20 tip since the majority of the time i spend was with her. Then I sat down with the cut (once she was done with the application of her other customer’s highlights). I was amazed at how she could balance 2 customers at once, but it was really sad that she thought this was okay. At one point when I was getting my cut, the other girl came over and was concerned her highlights were over processed…Christina didn’t seem worried. I think there’s just a lack of concern and bad customer service (not rude just lax).
All in all, it was a good cut and a good color. Not great, but good. The second problem I really had besides not having 100% attention of my stylist was that when I went to pay for my Toner they wanted to charge me $115. I asked why it was different from the $105 I was quoted and then they said the toner was $45, it clearly states in their menu it’s $35. Then the receptionist ended up arguing with Christina who was nice enough to say it was her mistake and I should be charged $35, but really my semi-permanent color should have been $70. There was definatelyl confusion about their pricing policies as others had stated. But as the receptionist said I should have paid $140. For that I could see a senior sylist at an Aveda salon 2 blocks away from my house, so would I come back. Probably not and it’s unfortunate because I like to repatriate Groupon businesses. The salon is definately not up to par with their pricing or customer service.
I had a wonderful experience using my Groupon here. I made my reservation in advance, went on a quiet morning (Monday or Tuesday), and really enjoyed it. I got a cut, color and highlights and have already gone back to get my roots touched up. I am delighted to have found a new salon via Groupon.

I am looking positive for this deal. What about you guys….
