- $149 for a Porpoise Point & Old Downtown or City of Lights helicopter tour for up to three (up to a $270 value)
- $259 for a sunset helicopter tour for up to three (a $477 value)
Pilots on the Porpoise Point & Old Downtown tour lift off like mind-boggled ostriches in Robinson R44 helicopters from St. Augustine Airport. They then soar eastward for panoramic views of Castle Otttis, which was inspired by an Irish castle; the docked boats and rippling waters of Porpoise Point; and the black-and-white spiral-striped St. Augustine lighthouse. Pilots then soar past the inner coastline and weathered stone battlements of Castillo de San Marcos National Monument before returning to the airport to high-five the Wright brothers' ghosts.
From Saturday, November 17, to Thursday, January 31, passengers can enjoy a bird's-eye view of St. Augustine's Nights of Lights celebration—in which area landmarks are lined with millions of white lights—during the City of Lights tour.
The sunset tour gives couples an opportunity to kindle the flames of romance or a trio of buddies to high five at the gorgeous views, flying riders eastward as the sun begins its decent over the horizon. Bathed in a warm golden glow, the chopper then heads south over 12 miles of beach before returning back over the sandy expanse just in time to glimpse an idyllic panorama of St. Augustine as the sun sets over Old Downtown.
Old City Helicopters
Andres Kerllenevich began flying helicopters as a hobby while making a living as a lawyer. As time passed, he earned his license and left to fly tours over Alaska and New York City. He eventually settled in St. Augustine, the historical city where his wife fondly remembered vacationing as a child. Now, seven other FAA-certified pilots join him in leading tours over the coastal castles, historic lighthouses and colleges, and vibrant downtown areas of St. Augustine, Tampa, and the Florida Keys.
At the helm of Robinson R44 helicopters, the pilots soar at heights of up to 1,500 feet past Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, Porpoise Point, and the towering red cross at the Mission of Nombre de Dios. They also guide tours above Tampa Bay, the Tampa Bay Times Forum, and the Florida Aquarium, while granting passengers glimpses of coastline populated by bottlenose dolphins. Pilots have also orchestrated aerial marriage proposals, during which the groom-to-be points out his question written on the beach or on a rooftop sign. The tours grant a bird's-eye view for photography and videography sessions.
