Donations fund a full range of medical treatments for an older dog, including an examination, blood work, vaccines, and microchip insertion

The Fine Print

The Issue: Elderly Dogs Requiring Medical Care

When older dogs are abandoned because they require more extensive medical care for chronic diseases or injuries, they often spend their last years alone in a shelter with very little chance of being adopted. However, many of these dogs have friendly, docile personalities, which make them excellent companions for families who do not want to train puppies from scratch. With the proper medical treatments and supplies, these dogs can become adoptable pets and spend their remaining years bringing joy to a family and knowing they are loved.

The Campaign: Funding Medical Treatment for Senior Dogs

If 50 people donate $10 to this Grassroots campaign, then Old Dog Haven can fund a medical examination, vaccines, blood work, a deworming treatment, and microchip insertion for one abandoned senior dog. An additional $500 raised will fund dental work for the same dog. After $1,000 is raised, additional donations will go toward medical costs for other abandoned senior dogs. With their medical treatments complete, elderly dogs can move into foster and adoptive homes where they can live out the remainder of their lives with the care and attention they deserve.

Old Dog Haven

When asked by the Seattle Times what is so special about older dogs, Judith Piper said they have “wisdom, grace, stability of personality, calmness of soul.” Piper started her organization, Old Dog Haven, after volunteering as a dog walker at a local shelter. She and her husband took in two dogs at the very end of their lives and were surprised at the satisfaction they gained from the experience. Today, Old Dog Haven takes in dogs aged 8 or older from shelters and owners who can no longer afford to care for them, and it works to return them to their best possible health before finding them a safe home. Judith and a team of volunteers place the dogs in about 140 local foster homes and adoptive homes, where they receive food, grooming, exercise, and love for the remainder of their lives. Old Dog Haven covers the medical treatment for life for dogs that come to the organization too ill or injured to be adopted.

The Groupon Guide to: Getting to the Head of the Class

It's a proven fact that people who do well in school are more likely to rise to the top of competitive job markets and prison hierarchies. Here are some tips for becoming the cream of the academic crop:

Bring Your Teacher an Apple: Teachers are notoriously starved for potassium because they're so busy teaching everyone else that they don’t have time to teach themselves about nutrition.

Answer Every Question: Teachers don't know the answers to anything, which is why they have to ask their students. Help out the people who were so busy teaching that they never had time to learn.

Watch TV Instead of Doing Your Homework: Teachers are so busy teaching that they have no time to watch TV. You're the only one who will be able to fill them in on the hilarious happenings during the most recent episode of I'd Like to File a Complaint—About My Wife!

Is your child's teacher potassium deficient? Find out in today's Groupon Guide.
