The call of the wild is like a call from an elderly grandparent: though you can’t quite make out what’s being said, you feel better about yourself when you answer. Pick up nature's phone with this Groupon.

Choose from Five Options

  • $18 for a two-hour standup paddleboard rental for one (a $36 value)
  • $36 for a two-hour standup paddleboard rental for two (a $72 value)

Paddlers explore canals and the waters, taking in panoramic views from atop their paddleboards. Rentals include paddles, lifejackets, and boards.

More than 35 vendors demonstrate brand equipment and apparel for cycling, standup paddleboarding, and kayaking. Representatives perform demonstrations on the water and guide instructional sessions on topics such as how to dress for cold water, how to improve paddling strokes, and how to shake hands with a sturgeon. As visitors mingle with industry representatives and staff from local shops, they can sample fare, listen to live music, and bid at a silent auction, which benefits youth paddling programs.

  • $79 for one team entry to the Unleash the Mini-Beast triathlon for up to three on Saturday, June 9 (a $160 value)

During the first day of the festival, teams line up to embark on a 5K kayak or standup paddleboard journey across the canal or bay, followed by a 10K mountain-bike ride and a 5K run through hilly trails and forested terrain. Afterward, runners can partake in food and festivities, knowing that their registration proceeds benefit finding a cure for ALS.

  • $109 for one team entry to the Unleash the Beast triathlon for up to three on Saturday, June 9 (a $225 value)

Competitors undertake a longer adventure race following a similar route, testing their endurance on a 15K canal or bay paddle, a 20K mountain-bike ride, and a 10K trail run.

Olympic Outdoor Center

Towering trees surround Puget Sound's shores, where mountains wrapped in hazy gauze loom in the background as wild animals serenely drink from the open waters and winding Hood Canal waterways. It's here that Olympic Outdoor Center decided to stake its headquarters more than 25 years ago, and where their instructors now lead paddlers onto the water for kayak and standup paddleboard lessons. The coaches also guide salmon-fishing tours and other extended trips, as well as youth adventure camps in which kids learn to maneuver kayaks and paddleboats and master fending off sea monsters with a swift paddle-bop to the noggin.

On land, staff members guide adventurers through mountain-biking camps and competitive races on the surrounding 4,000 acres of forested trails. The staffers help organize outdoor recreation events such as annual adventure sports festivals, paddling and biking triathlons, and overnight paddling trips.
