As a professional dancer, Nicky Chronopoulos pushed her body to its limits day after day. After suffering an ankle injury, she decided to explore alternative forms of body movement to work toward recovery. She began studying Pilates and Gyrotonic, and wanted to share the muscle-building and rehabilitative effects she learned with others. Nicky now continues her career as a professional dancer in addition to boasting titles as a certified Gyrotonic instructor and Pilates Master Teacher with more than 10 years of experience, and helms her own Pilates studio, oneBody.

At oneBody, she pushes students to take charge of transforming their bodies in Pilates classes. Rather than toning muscles by consulting a genie, her mat classes incorporate the students’ own body weight and small equipment as resistance to up the challenge. Other classes use machines such as the reformer and magic circle. Nicky leads both group classes, which are limited to six students, and private sessions that focus on technique and proper alignment.

Sunlight filters in through the windows of Nicky’s studio, with exposed-brick walls and rich wooden rafters enhancing the serenity of her fitness loft. When she isn’t teaching at oneBody, she applies her strength and knowledge as she continues to dance professionally and guide youths at the Chicago High School for the Arts.

Rather than toning muscles by consulting a genie, their group equipment classes incorporate pupils’ own body weight and combine spring wall and mat into each class. Sessions require a minimum of three participants and a have a maximum attendance of four. Sunlight filters in through the windows of the studio, with exposed-brick walls and rich wooden rafters that enhance the loft's serenity. Both group classes, which are limited to four students, and private sessions focus on technique and proper alignment, giving each person individual attention.
