Oxygen Tango

Oxygen Tango‘s instructors find joy, discovery, and passion in argentine tango. Founded by Mitra Martin and Stefan Fabry, who have a decades-long infatuation with the dance, the staff and instructors divulge the secrets and techniques of the sultry, improvised dance during classes for all skill levels. On weeknights, they take to the floor offering tips and advice to help students spin and kick their way through tango steps. Every third Saturday of the month, teachers and students gather for a 4.5- to 6-hour milonga, replete with a DJ, dancing, and partying. The schedule also includes prácticas, or practice sessions, where students may have the opportunity to dance freely with advanced dancers in an attempt to perfect the intricate footwork and trade their favorite tango idioms.

The Groupon Guide to: Barrels of Animals

History’s greatest poets and philosophers have all relied on one infallible metric in the construction of their most enduring metaphors—comparing things to barrels of different animals. Penetrate their heady linguistic flourishes with this clear-cut guide to animal-barrel metaphors.

  • Barrel of: Monkeys
  • Symbolizes: Imminent, inescapable fun
  • Use it in a sentence: “The new hit movie Scream 4 is more fun—and scarier—than a barrel of monkeys!”

  • Barrel of: Fish

  • Symbolizes: How easy it would be to accomplish a given task, in comparison to cornering fish in an enclosed space and hunting them with a gun
  • Use it in a sentence: “Chucking shurikens into this oil drum full of lobsters will be slightly harder than shooting fish in a barrel!”

  • Barrel of: One man

  • Symbolizes: A whimsical look at Depression-era poverty
  • Use it in a sentence: “There’s nothing metaphorical about the crisis of poverty.”

What is literally as fun as a barrel of monkeys?
