Discovered in 1953, pizza is the only food to have been eaten on the moon, blessed by a pope, and endorsed by Olympic marathoner Gezahegne Abera—the "triple crown" of food honors. With today's Groupon, $10 gets you $20 worth of piping deep-dish pies at Patxi's Chicago Pizza for $10. Encourage the pizza neighbors to come out and play at one of three locations between San Francisco and Palo Alto, where a smorgasbord of toppings wait to edibly unite.
Patxi's Chicago Pizza is a Best Pizza of the Bay Area establishment that caters to indulgent pizza partiers and intimate diners alike. Printed on resilient pizza dough, Patxi's menu features a build-your-own arsenal of toppings such as feta cheese, green bell peppers, Italian sausage, kalamata olives, sundried tomatoes, salami, zucchini, soy cheese, and many more available atop Chicago-style crusts ($14.40 for a 10'' before toppings) and thin crusts ($9.95 for a 10'' before toppings).
For those who'd rather not think outside of the crust, Patxi's offers its own signature combination pies, such as the Californian, with a whole wheat crust, low-fat mozzarella, red onions, and fresh spinach ($19.05 for a 10’’). Any pizza can be accentuated by the subtle zing of a white or red wine or a crisp Newcastle on tap ($4.95) as you contemplate what toppings, in a different world, the pizza would order on you.
- Francisco Patxi Azpiroz knows a thing or two about pizza. As a former manager for Zachary's, Azpiroz worked (and obviously learned) at what is arguably the most celebrated pizzeria in the entire Bay Area… Patxi's serves the type of gooey deep-dish pizzas that would make a relocated Chicago native weep with joy. – Gayot
- So fans of Chicago-style, deep-dish pizza who've been pining for the real thing in Silicon Valley will be thrilled with the arrival of Patxi's Chicago Pizza restaurant. Traditionalists who favor Italian-style, crispy crusts will appreciate Patxi's thin-crust pies, too. – Elaine Rowland, Palo Alto Weekly
More than 1,100 Yelpers give the three Patxi's locations an average of four stars, Citysearchers rate it 4.5 stars, and better than 80% of more than 200 combined Urbanspooners like it. Reviewers agree that the delicious deep-dish crust is worth the wait:
- The sauce and crust are to die for. I had the spinach pesto and an amazing Greek salad. The selection of beer on tap is very well thought out as well. – william, Urbanspoon
- If you crave a different pizza experience try a deep dish here. Initially, the wait of 30 - 40 minute for a pie seemed dauntingly long, but fortunately the beer selection on tap saved the day…The pizzas are very impressive with fresh ingredients and a good tomato sauce that wasn't overwhelmed with oregano and sugar. – cynbergho22, Citysearch
