Though it is pure joy to fall head-over-heels for another person, it is only with proper early-life gymnastics training that one survives such an encounter. • Beginner gymnastics for ages 5–8

  • For $30, you get one month of intermediate or tumbling classes (a $92 value).

Payke Gymnastics Academy's teachers foster human motion from the basics of childhood coordination to the aerial athletic feats performed on rings, mats, and springboards. One-hour classes gather aspiring acrobats once a week to train and sweat beneath the space's vast, vaulted ceiling. Tots and tot-wranglers tumble through trust exercises on the padded floors during Parent and Me courses, and ripening youngsters in KinderGym acquire basic skills for using competitive equipment, building strength, and dishing acceptable Olympic smack talk.

Beginner and intermediate classes steadily progress through more complex movements as students leave the observable laws of gravity farther and farther behind by creating personal sequences and routines. The skills gleaned in tumbling sessions supplement the physical repertoire of athletes pursuing dance, cheerleading, martial arts, and even free running, the most impressive form of tax evasion known to man.
