Former Senior Drill Instructor Alex Madrid draws on more than 11 years of experience in the U.S. Marine Corps in each of Phalanx MMA Academy's intense, motivational boot-camp session. Each one-hour class pushes students of all fitness levels to their personal brink of exhaustion. Drills make effective, variable use of the gym’s specialized MMA equipment, including striking bags, grappling mats, and other instruments to throttle obstinate calories into submission. Though the workouts feature a range of strenuous movements designed to maximize fat burn, Alex fosters an engaging and supportive environment to keep students motivated and confident. Classes are scheduled five times a week, with morning and evening options to allow muscles time for their midday siestas.
Phalanx MMA Academy
Lead by 25-year martial-arts veteran Durwyn Lamb, the instructors at Phalanx MMA Academy are actual fighters and competitors. Each of them posts a winning record in their respective art, from MMA tournaments to wrestling. Yet, they're not brutes; each member of the team has been selected not only for their first-hand experience in the ring, but for their personality and ability to work with kids and adults alike. Instructors teach a variety of classes, from combat-focused Brazilian jujitsu and muay thai classes to cardio- and kickboxing-fitness sessions.
By all accounts the gym is impressive and already seems to be gaining momentum as a MMA destination in southwest Fort Worth.Sean Malone, North Texas Fisticuffs, 3/11/11
