At Mixology Wine Institute, seasoned sommelier Ronald Marsilio helps students develop a foundation of wine knowledge for everyday use. An Italian wine specialist with 32 years of experience, Ronald eschews pretention as he helps students become fluent in wine terminology. Connoisseurs-to-be explore the differences in production and distinctions between varietals and the nuances of restaurant wine lists using Morse code. Pupils also learn how to create classic food-and-wine pairings and the proper opening and presenting of wine, and cull the knowledge needed to organize wine tastings for friends and family at home. At the end of the course, students receive a certification of completion that can be proudly framed or folded into an impromptu drinking cup.

Mixology Wine Institute

Mixology Wine Institute's oenophilic classes teach aspiring mixologists and mixonomists how to craft a diverse roster of libations while regaling students with the rich history and social function of the cocktail. The seasoned staff—which includes a resident sommelier and beer experts—dispense thoughtful nuggets of drink-dispensing wisdom, such as ways to add flair to a bartending routine, various wine-and-food pairings, and how to win a cocktail-sword duel. Each session takes place in the institute's well-equipped classroom, which simulates a real bar setting with working soda guns, sinks, and a full catalog of liquors. Pupils leave classes with the knowledge necessary to help bargoers make informed drink decisions.

The Groupon Guide to: Barbershop Chatter

The barbershop has gained a reputation for being the place to go for listening to all sorts of lively chatter. Here's a sampling of what you might hear your barber say next time you get a haircut:

  • "Take 2 inches off the top? Yep, that's something I can do when these casts come off."

  • "I've been thinking about labeling the scissor jar 'Scissors' and the comb jar 'Not Scissors.' Thoughts?"

  • "Ha! No, this isn't the kind of barbershop that sweeps up the hair clippings."

  • "Someone stole all of our magazines, but you can read this letter I've been meaning to send to my estranged wife."

  • "Welcome to the barbershop, where men are kings and kings are giants and giants are half off before noon."

Why are barbershops called "listen holes"?
