I’m traveling to NYC in March and will only be in town for 4 days. I’ve been searching for Groupons for good eats for the trip. This looks perfect but I have a question before I buy. The deal says it expires in 1 year-as do many of the restaurant deals. I buy Groupons for San Francisco all the time because I know I’ll be using them quickly, but for this one I can’t. What happens if a restaurant goes out of business before one has a chance to use the Groupon? With this economy restaurants are a dicey business. I’d hate to lose the 25 bucks.

Melodye B.

Poco has great deals throughout the week, and I’d love to take advantage of this deal. I know this Groupon is “not valid with other offers or prix fixe menus.” I assume the prix fixe means the brunch special, but what about the Tuesday ($30 for 2 tapas & unlimited sangria), Wednesday (all-you-can-eat mussels), and Sunday night (half price wine bottles) deals? What all does this Groupon in/exclude? Thanks for your help!

Lina L.

Maxine –
If that were to happen, you could contact us and we would surely refund you, no problem.

Melodye -
This Groupon is not valid for the Brunch or Tuesday prixe fixe but it IS VALID for all the other specials!
This Groupon is valid towards anything offered at Poco (drinks and food) except those 2 specials.

Thanks and enjoy!

Groupon

how come it is not allowing me to puchase the deal? It keeps saying to enter the email address (even though I have been doing just that)

Spiro T.
Elaine .

Hi, is this deal good for lunch and dinner? I don’t see anything about time restrictions, just not good on prix fixe. Thanks.

Federico T.

Hello,
i’m Italian, from Milano and i’ll be in ny next week for a couple of weeks.
Can someone explain better how to use the coupon?
It’s like a discount?
Ex. the dinner bill it’s 50 usd and i i’ll pay only 25? or is is a fix menu of 25 usd?
thnks a lot,
Fede

Jamie D.

Hi, Can this groupon be used on a Saturday night?

Lina L.

Hi all,

This Groupon can be used at anytime, any day! The only things not included is the brunch prix fixe and the Tuesday night special – you can still go during those times and choose from the other menus!

As far as how the Groupon works – you need to press buy today and then pay $25 for a $50 Groupon/certificate for Poco to print and bring in.

Enjoy!

Federico T.

is it like a discount????

Carolyn Y.

What about the $10 wine w/dinner mentioned on Yelp?

John D.

Poco might be my favorite restaurant in NYC!! I travel all the way from the Upper East just for the Lobster Mac…it’s UNREAL. The service is fantastic…unlike most restaurants (especially ones as popular as Poco) they never rush you and always make you feel welcome…GREAT GROUPON!!!

David A.

Yes, Federico, paying only $25 for $50 worth of food is a discount

Lina L.

Frederico – You do pay for the Groupon now and then print it out to bring it with you to the restaurant!

Carolyn – This is not valid with any other offers.

Cheers,
Lina

Thank you!

So does this mean that if I go with a party of 4, I can use 2 of these groupons?

Lina L.

Kei – You are correct!

Lina-
Please advise does that mean that this can not be used for the brunch or weekly specials??

It says it’s not good for other specials. Does this mean if I go during Happy Hour, I have to pay the full price for the drinks, or can I use this Groupon during Happy Hour?

Lina L.

Emma-
This CAN NOT be used toward the brunch or Tuesday night special. You can still go during those times and order off the other menu options.

Jennifer-
This CAN be used for happy hour!

Enjoy!

We love Poco. It’s such a fun place, the food is excellent and the drinks are delicious. What a perfect combination, Poco and Groupon!

Malini R.

I bought 2 groupons, but changed my mind; I only want one.

I tried to update my order and that didn’t work. I ended up canceling the order and re-purchasing, but it some how ended up as 2 groupons again. Any advice?

Evelen H.

If I go during diner or lunch time, just to be really certain, would the groupon be good towards anything on the menu besides the ‘brunch specialty cocktails,’ ‘sunday night 1/2 price,’ or any other special offer? But I could use it towards anything on either the brunch or dinner menu that is not on, or part of, a special?
Many thanks for your clarifications!

Ellen R.

I tried to purchase the groupon for poco — but did not received an email back — don’t know if I should try again or wait

Lauren D.

I haven’t gotten the email either. I purchased the groupon about 5 hours ago.

Lina L.

Malini – Contact support@groupon.com

Evelyn – The Groupon is good toward 1/2 off bottles and all you can eat mussels.

IT IS NOT GOOD FOR BRUNCH AND THE TUESDAY PRIXE FIXES!

You CAN go any time but your Groupon would need to be used for anything but those two specials.

Ellen / Lauren – It may be some time before you receive it due to the traffic.

If you don’t get anything by tonight / tomorrow morning feel free to contact support@groupon.com

Thanks,
Lina

Terrible first experience. Waited hours for my credit card to process and to get the groupon, and then find out that I can’t use it for tonight’s meal. WTF is the point of calling it “Today’s Deal” if you can’t use it today?

I just want to say that I LOVE Groupon, you guys rock and have the best deals around.. and maybe if ppl took the time to read instructions and learn more about how Groupon “works” they wouldn’t get so frustrated with you and would appreciate you as well.

andy l.

Nowhere in the fine print does it say you can’t use the groupon for the day you buy it. If there are time limitations associated with the groupon they need to be clearly stated.

Elizabeth W.

I agree with Brandi — people need to READ… it’s the same question over and over and over…

For example, Andy who is pissed — if you click on the Deal FAQ, it says::

How long do I have to wait to use my Groupon once I’ve purchased it?
You can use most Groupons the day after you purchase them – our featured businesses typically request we hold back the masses on the first day while they see to the phones.

Day AFTER you purchase them. Seriously — people are mad because they just start clicking without actually reading.

Monique J.

Andy, you must actually read the fine print! Calm down, grab something else for dinner tonight and head to Poco tomorrow, it will still be there :)

peadar m.

i agree with brandi, elizabeth and monique, people should READ the fine print before gettin o.t.t mad about it, i use groupon all the time and think its great to have people looking out for discounts for the rest of us, thanks guys!!

Carolyn Y.

So before I was told that the Groupon wasn’t good for 1/2 off bottles, and now they’re saying it is? Guess it’s a good thing I checked back…

Suzanne .

Hi! if i buy 2 or $50 worth, do i get 2 $25 certificates so that i can give one away or use it at a different time?

Suzanne – yes, you get 2 vouchers. Unless you have 4 people at the table, you would have to use them at different times. Or, yes, you can always give one to someone else.

Suzanne .

Thanks! :)

Katie G.

i love love love this site and all of its deals. i don’t even live in nyc anymore, but i bought this deal anyway since it’s THAT worth it. next time, i’m there i’ve got my whole night set up thanks to groupon

Dana R.

I know most people don’t post AFTER they use their groupon- but i didn’t know where else to send the feedback. I wanted to thank Groupon and POCO for an awesome deal! I have had a bad experience with a previous restaurant groupon before in NYC so (unfortunately) i went conservative this time and only bought two groupons. I went there this weekend for my boyfriend’s birthday with another couple and we had a blast. The atmosphere was great, the food was delish and we were treated to a free comedy show that was absolutely hilarious. It was one of the best nights we’ve had out. I’m glad Groupon introduced me to this restaurant. We will be back!!!!

Marie .

Hi Everyone!
Just wanted to let you know that I went to Poco tonight, and it is NOT valid for Happy Hour. What this means is, if you use the Groupon, they will charge you full price for the drinks. Unfortunately, because Lina had mentioned that it was valid for HH, what this meant for me was $60 extra on my bill that I hadn’t expected to spend. I respect an establishment’s rules, but they were not made clear and it was embarassing to the person I was with not to mention paaaainful on the wallet. :P
Hey Groupon! I think it would be useful for those who bought this to get an email letting them know. :)

Marie .

Oh, but I should add that the food was absolutely delicious and service was fantastic. I will definitely be back, with or without Groupon!

Lorna H.

Just wanted to say that Groupon ROCKS! I used my Poco Groupon to (finally) have a girl’s night out with one of my friends that I hadn’t seen in ages… And we LOVED our experience.

Got there at 5:30 and it was pretty empty, so I was a bit concerned; but we sat at the bar and the bartendrix, Alexis, hooked us up with majorly yummy drinks. She told us straight up that the happy hour drinks weren’t included in the tab but, given that the happy hour deal was pretty decent, we decided not to worry about it and just use the Groupon towards food.

And thee food was TOTALLY yum! Amazingly decadent Lobster Mac ‘n Cheese, mushroom truffle croquettes to-die-for, and a very different — but tasty — crispy calamari. My friend and I split those and were stuffed, but we still had more money on our Groupon, so my friend got a dish to go — to go with the leftovers of our other noshies (being a starving artist, I’m sure she appreciated THAT)! LOL

We wound up spending $20 on drinks — given how MUCH we had to drink, it was an AMAZING deal. LOL

All in all, I had a GREAT experience. Oh, and by the time we left, we’d found that they were PACKED — Alexis told us that the place has done well since it opened, but we Grouponers were bringing a whole new flavour to the mix.

Keep up the great work, Groupon!!!

Marie .

Hi Lorna!
I’m glad you had a good experience! What they told us, though, was that you couldn’t have a separate check for Happy Hour drinks and a separate check for food, so they put everything on one bill and charged us $11 per drink. I did ask if it were possible to get separate checks but they said that wasn’t possible. Maybe it is if you sit at the bar…

Elaine .

I recently called up Poco to use my groupon during brunch hours, and the lady on the phone explicitly said it is NOT good for brunch, AT ALL. I AM CONFUSED!!!

In an earlier post (from Lina L. commented 9 days ago), I read:
This Groupon can be used at anytime, any day! The only things not included is the brunch prix fixe and the Tuesday night special – you can still go during those times and choose from the other menus!

So we decided not to go to Poco (this was Saturday around noon), and I still have these coupons left. Anyone else have a similar experience, or know what the deal is? THANKS.

j G.

looks like someone should do brunch in mcdonald’s or ihop instead.

Went in and was told that I couldn’t use this Groupon for happy hour specials. Scroll up and see where I SPECIFICALLY asked if I could. The manager spent 5 minutes explaining how she would be losing so much money if she allowed people to use it for Happy Hour. While I understand where she’s coming from, the information was not passed along to Groupon customers and I was given FALSE information by a Groupon staff member.

The drinks are SO not worth even the $5 happy hour special — they taste great, but are 2-3 sips and all ice. Anyway, I did not go for the drinks, I went for the food and it was great and service was friendly. Groupon (and the restaurant) should get their facts straight before selling these deals. The manager said she contacted Groupon to let them know; apparently this information never trickled down to the purchasers of this specific deal.

Serena .

Groupon really needs to get its act together. I went in on Sunday and was charged full price for the bottle of wine I ordered (Sunday night special is 1/2 price wine bottles).

This is after Groupon staff Lina L. specifically posted, “The Groupon is good toward 1/2 off bottles”. This makes me feel like Groupon is purposefully selling groupons under false pretenses, telling customers that the coupons are good for something that they are not. Either this, or Poco ripped off Groupon.

Either way, someone is ripping off someone. I demand a refund for a sale made under false pretenses.

I talked to the manager and apparently she said that she contacted Groupon and said that they would not honor any of the nightly specials. Apparently, that information never trickled down to the people that actually bought the coupon. The manager explained to me for about 5 minutes about how she only uses the freshest ingredients for her drinks and everything if made by hand and she would be out so much money if she honored the specials with the coupon and she’s not giving away free meals by the Groupon. To be honest, I had a drink and it was the smallest drink I’ve ever had and it wasn’t that great, all ice too.

I specifically asked if the Groupon could be used during happy hour and was told that it could be… well guess what, it can’t. There’s an obvious lack of communication here between Groupon staff and the restaurant owner. Unfortunately, my experience left a bad taste b/c of the coupon situation. Had we not spoken to the manager and everything went smooth, I would recommend this place to friends. But since I had to listen to a 5 minute spiel about how the restaurant is losing money right and left b/c of Groupon, makes me less than willing to recommend it or go back.

Serena .

Thanks for sharing Jennifer B. Groupon needs to let customers know that they information the posted originally was wrong. However, even if they do so, it is still wrong that the information will be coming out AFTER we bought our tickets thinking that the specials were included.

Four of us went to Poco tonight thinking that we will use two Groupons. Once the waiter found out that we are using Groupon, all the special went available for us. It was fine for us. We understood and though it was reasonable.

We are not too much of drinkers so we only ordered a pitcher of sangria and six tapas plates. When we got the check, it was a few cents shy of $100. We thought we did very well and put down two Groupons and $20 for tip. The waiter came back and told us that we can only use two Groupons for the bill of $100 or more. We told him that there was no mention about this rule anywhere. At the end, we ended up ordering a desert item to make it over $100. The food was good and we did not mind too much about it. It just really annoyed us that we can’t use two Groupons because the bill was $99. It would have been fine if this rule was mentioned before. Besides, the rest of us just sat there for another half an hour while our friend was finishing the desert. If I was the manager or the owner, I would have just taken the turns.

I love Groupon very much but this kind of rule should be communicated or mentioned on the find print.
