During hands-on workshops, a professional screenprinting artist leads beginners in decorating personalized T-shirts with single-color images of their choice, from a solid-colored guitar or bird shape to the silhouette of a favorite dancer on Soul Train. Insider tips, such as which ink to use and how to prepare screens and discern squeegee density, pepper the class as students practice printing on paper or old report cards before pressing a final draft across their shirt. Classes are capped at six students, maximizing one-on-one attention and facilitating bonding over brews.
Artist Peter McGouran opened his screenprinting studio and school to fulfill his passion for creating 2-D images layered with emotion, nuance, and color unattainable by computers. Featured on BushwickBK, the artist has worked with Alternative Apparel, American Apparel, Edun, and Next Level to emblazon fashion with artful images and exuberant hues. The pro teaches workshops for learners from beginner to advanced, infusing them with an enthusiasm for the eclectic art form via increasingly complex lessons, hands-on art projects, and freeze-frame group high-fives at the end of every class.
