The most secretive body parts are muscles, which hide behind layers of skin and appear only occasionally to help lift cars off trapped kittens. Gently flex your biceps in the absence of a cat emergency with today's Groupon: for $20, you get three one-hour fitness classes ($60 value) at Pop Physique, in Seal Beach. The hip boutique fitness studio offers upbeat classes designed to make you lean, toned, and flexible.
Pop Physique reshapes patrons with its signature class, Pop Sculpt, which mixes a ballet barre and light weights to work every major muscle group, focusing on arms, abs, and glutes while improving posture, flexibility, and strength. The fitness studio features a state-of-the-art sound system, sprung dance floors (absorb shock, softer feel, catapult effect), and ballet barres (long, cylindrical, inanimate). Class sizes are limited so you can get plenty of personal attention and relatively easy access to the water fountain.

In addition to an LA Weekly "Best of" award in 2009, Yelpers give Pop Physique on West Sunset Boulevard a near-perfect 4.5 stars, and an average of 3.5 stars to the Ventura Boulevard location: > * With their hourlong fusion of ballet barre, Pilates, stretching, light weights and core strengthening exercises, Pop Physique is sculpting Silver Lake into one seriously sexy populace. – Heidi Dvorak, LA Weekly
- I'm very happy with my choice to start at Pop Physique and I plan on staying. And more than that, every time I leave there my muscles are shaking because I just got such a great work out – Carley C.
At the end of a fruitful career that led her from the Cincinnati Ballet to the Sacramento Ballet, Jennifer Williams funneled her dance savvy into creating the barre-inspired exercise system taught at Pop Physique, a 2013 CityVoter finalist for Best Gym. Her fleet of handpicked and personally trained instructors pairs graceful ballet moves with other low-impact exercises in order to chisel cores without injuring muscles. Deep stretches further preserve tendons and leave each student more relaxed than a tortoise moseying past a state patrolman with a radar gun. Sessions run multiple times a day, seven days a week at an expanding network of SoCal locations. The roomy studios are lined with sprung dance floors and design accents that lend each location a distinct personality and a chance to forget its past as a storage room for defective food processors.
