Presidio 10

Named the 2011 Road Race of the Year by the Road Runners Club of America, the Presidio 10 sends runners dashing through one of two scenic routes—a 10-mile or a 10-kilometer course—that begin and end at Crissy Field. Both USATF-certified courses follow the shoreline and zip across the Golden Gate Bridge for 3.4 miles of running against the sweeping backdrop of the city skyline. Back on solid land, runners zigzag through picturesque Presidio lanes before heading back to Crissy Field. At the finish line, contestants high-five acquaintances while live musicians entertain the crowd with Debussy's Jock Jam in G Major. In awards ceremonies, the family-friendly race hands out awards for runners in all age divisions. This year's race benefits the Ashlyn Dyer Foundation for neurological research as well as The Guardsmen, a volunteer group that has helped at-risk youth with outdoor education and scholarships since 1947.

The Guardsmen

Since their formation in 1947, The Guardsmen's vanguard of volunteers have spread quality educational and outdoor activities to at-risk and inner-city youth. Their scholarship and campership programs have paved the way for disadvantaged children to achieve and excel in society and come in whatever form the child may need, from purely recreational activities such as hiking and softball to access to high-quality private education. To fund their programs, the all-volunteer force relies on monetary donations and genie wishes bequeathed by supporters.

The Groupon Guide to: Having One Million Dollars

One million dollars is the largest amount of money any human can conceive of, much less accumulate over a lifetime. Here are the extravagant items you’re required to purchase once you achieve the only financial goal worth pursuing:

• Portrait of yourself stroking a fluffy cat and/or skull
• Carelessly amassed pile of boats
• Rare Superman comic where he punches out Louis St. Laurent
• A roaring indoor fire
• A man in white gloves who isn’t the butler, don’t hand him anything (wearing white gloves is the man’s entire job)
• Ancient statue of a dead Greek hunk
• Oh man, a pool table!

What extravagant item can no rich person live without?

  • I really love this race. It is super low key and they really take care of you once you complete the race.
