  • $175 for five wine tasting cultural classes with cheese pairings (a $400 value)

At the onset of each 90-minute class, Jaye immediately doles out sips of vino, giving participants about 20 minutes to mingle and get comfortable with the instructor and the other students. The entire session explores various facets of the wine sipping experience, from proper food pairings to judging a wine's flavor profile by the design of its label and bottle. As part of a 10-class curriculum, each informative meeting includes snacks and cheeses that help underscore the nuances of their paired wines. Group classes are offered Sundays at 5 p.m.

Proud Wineaux

Jaye, the Dallas-born connoisseur behind Proud Wineaux, can tell whether a wine originated on the right bank or left bank of the city of Bordeaux simply by tasting it. This isn't just a party trick or a way to navigate France while blindfolded; it's evidence of more than a decade spent up front and behind the scenes at renowned restaurants such as Jean Georges, Dean Fearing's The Mansion on Turtle Creek, and various New York City hot spots, where she shares her gifts as a wine and beverage consultant.

During one-on-one or group classes, she helps students explore the world of wine in a friendly environment free of pretension. "The moment you begin to release the fear of not knowing, the learning begins," she says on her website. She teaches her students to pair wines with cheeses according to their region or the texture of the cheese.

The Groupon Guide to: Talking to an Old Friend

If you’re going to be out and about in this world, chances are that at some point you will run into an old friend you used to know from summer camp or summer juvenile detention. Here are some things you can say to spark conversation with this long-lost pal:

  • “Hi, I’ve missed you. Let’s see if our hands are still the perfect size for holding each other.”

  • “So, what have you been up to all these years? From the looks of things, you’ve been staying fit, active, and hungry for change.”

  • “Do you remember the pact we made to each other all those years ago? Was it that we would never grow up or never throw up? Because I’ve only been adhering to one of those.”

  • “Get out of my way. I’m very important now and I’m allowed to go right to the front of any buffet line.”

  • “I’m sorry that I stopped writing, but the only things I had to say to you were illegal to put in writing.”

  • “Do you recognize me? You do? Who am I? I had an accident and now I don’t remember anything about my former self. Was I kind and beautiful?”

Was I kind and beautiful?
